ok guys I am in the process of a full wire tuck and about 80% done.

I got rid of the voltage regulator and wondered whether the white blue. WL wire is really necessary? can I delete this as it just feeds back to the main wire harness I believe.

What are you going to use to regulate the alternator?

The WL wire goes from the Regulator to the Alternator. If you are not using the voltage regulator then this wire is not doing anything

I have an alternator with an internal regulator. the Mitsubishi type.

I am relocating the battery to the boot so thought I would:

1. Run the +'ve to a circuit breaker 140A close to battery, then straight to the starter solenoid.
2. run a feed from the starter back to the fuse box for live feed in. Eliminating the large white/red to white wire from engine bay
3. run a A charge cable from the alternator to the starter to charge the battery

So am I right in thinking its the small white/red wire that is the feed to the charge light in the dash?
And that I will then only need this 1 wire small white/red to go to the L terminal with nothing needed on the S terminal?

thanks for the help

As far as I know, the S terminal needs to be connected to battery +.
* The way it's done from the factory is on balanced line (same length/resistance or something as the A wire). This is to ensure the Sense voltage is still correct under all wear/connection states. Some cars connect it through IGN circuit
* B310 connects it full-time (not through Ignition Switch), so it can be wired either way (at least for Hitachi IR alternator)
* 'A' wire is connected to Battery via a Fusible Link (not a circuit breaker nor a fuse). Whether a CB is a good idea or not is debatable

A lot of older cars wire the starter/IGN the way you plan to, for example Datsun 510. The newer Datsun way (starting with the B110) is the fusible link right at the battery, the most foolproof

WR wire goes to the CHG lamp
