Last time we looked at the Datsun 1000 oil filler cap. Now let's look at the newer oil filler caps

In contrast to the 1960s "blowby cap" -- so called because engine fumes will come out of it -- all newer A-series engines use a sealed cap for happy motoring

As you can see they both use the same push-and-turn (cam-twist) style, and the exact same packing (gasket). The functional difference is vented or not vented. The sealed cap must be used with a vented rocker cover -- which all A12/A13/A14 and A15 engines have

The original 1200 cap was plain silver

They revised this cap during the 1200 production, adding text on it

It's more or less the same cap as the plain one execpt for the words being added

If you order the original part number from Nissan -- as I did in 2006 -- you are likely to get one of the revised caps. Good news is it is currently listed at $18.23 USD replaced 15255-15953/15255-15853

Fits your A12, A14 or A15

They are on eBay TODAY but for much more money

But what if you want to original Classic silver cap? Buy it at a local auto spares shop. NAPA and Supercheap may have them

For example Rockauto.com is selling what looks similar to the original cap for less than $4

* STANT 46524
* MOTORAD MO102

Unfortunately they are out of the 'made in japan' caps that look EXACTLY like the original
* GATES Part # 31088
* STANT Part # 10102

Another neat choice is the Bprojects Billet Hollow Oil Filler Cap RAW. Unfortunately they are out of stock at the moment but you can put in a request for silver, red or blue

Looks nearly exact to the original but is in billet Aluminum, lightweight construction

I actually love the blowbycap on early A10 donkys
healthy engines rarely passed/deposited oil there

There was some discussion in this club that perhaps later Datsun 1000 (1969?) may have gone to a sealed system -- meaning only vented via the rocker cover-to-air cleaner hose? As we know the early 1000 have the vented oil cap

Did they do that for the AUS 1000s?
