G5110 distributor questions

I have a few questions about the G5110 distributor.

- Is this considered to be a "high energy" (HEI) distributor?
- Is the ballast resistor supposed to be part of the ignition circuit when using it?
- What coil is appropriate?

Thanks

G51 is the Applied Model Code for Nissan Vanette series C22 1985-1991 with A-series engine.

The G51 distributor is a Mitsubishi T4T distributor body with EI innards. It looks identical to the 1990-1994 Sunny Truck high-energy distributor, which also uses the J117/H51 ignitor, and -- because it is high-energy -- does not require a ballast resistor. Any 0.7 nominal ohm coil is right, for example, N12 Pulsar EI coil, 910 Bluebird EI coil, R31 coil, and of course the C22 and B122 EI coils, or MSD Blaster 2. Also some Mazda/Ford uses J117 so those coils would work too. I would not use the Bosch HEC715 as it draws more current being a 0.4 ohm coil

Can you confirm it has this 2-piece Mitsubishi ignitor set (marked 'J117')?

Ok that is great info DD. I cannot confirm yet about the ignitor set as I do not have the dizzy in my hand.

Edit:
So for example this coil?

Bosch Red coil 0 221 119 030 is a points type it seems -- it is 1.8 ohms

And $87 is no bargain. aftermarket stalwart Standard Motor Products UF4 is $21 rockauto,com $25 Summit Racing

Looks like Superformance carries Standard Motor Products coils

It is made by Mitsubishi, for Nissan. In USA it came in nothing, however, the USA E15 distributor is the same kind and I ran one on my A12. see E15 Electronic Distributor Swap

Basically just remove the gear from A distributor and put on the E distributor

Interestingly BProjects is selling a distributor that looks like the Chinese copies of the G5110 on ebay, and it suggests a 3.0 ohms coil in the diagram.

something doesn't add up

It says:
* Country/Region of Manufacture: Japan
* Brand: Nissan
And the $495 price tag matches that

But ... the photos look like a chinese knock-off

Also it says Bosch Silver Coil, which I thought was a 6V (vintage car) coil. It also says Accuspark orange coil, but they only list Black, Blue and Red http://www.accuspark.co.uk/coils.html

A 3-ohm coil is worse performance than the stock points coil, specifically weaker during engine starting

For the record my G5110 distributor does have the J117 Mitsubishi ignitor set. Also has a Mitsubishi marked cap and the rotor is marked with both Nissan and Mitsubishi logos.
