Found a better engine for carbs than the VQ
Smaller heads, lighter overall, Small block based parts,
simpler ohv more power and torque figures than a vq40
and with racetech front accessory delete kit would
make it as short as an A series.

https://gmpowertrain.com/assets/images ... atures-specifications.pdf

would only put it in a vega or other small gm car

The beauty about it is that its way cheaper than buying
an aftermarket TA PERFORMANCE buick v6 block at 4000 usd
just to have an all aluminum ohv v6.

the chevrolet 4.3 was put in trucks, large cars and mid-size cars. The smaller 2.8 & 3.0 was put in the small cars

That in the brochure is a highly stressed racing 4.3. On the other hand the VQ will last 150,000 miles

on the contrary its no racing engine or highly stressed at 5800rpm.

Its a factory common engine in all silverados and gmc trucks from 2014
they also last 150miles without the vq chain stretching many vqs have.

"The 4.3 L (262.5 cu in) LV3 V6 is a new engine announced by GM at the end of 2012. GM considers this a new engine design which inherits from its predecessors its displacement, 2-valve pushrod valvetrain, 90-degree cylinder angle, and 4.4 in (111.8 mm) bore centers. It is based on the fifth generation LT engine and includes the same features such as direct injection, piston cooling jets, active fuel management, variable displacement oil pump, continuously variable valve timing and aluminum cylinder heads and block. The engine is SAE certified to 285 hp (213 kW) at 5300 rpm and 305 lb⋅ft (414 N⋅m) at 3900 rpm on regular unleaded gasoline and 297 hp (221 kW) at 5300 rpm and 330 lb⋅ft (447 N⋅m) at 3900 rpm on E85. Emissions are controlled by a close-coupled catalytic converter, Quick Sync 58X ignition, returnless fuel rail, fast-response O2 sensor.[11] It was launched in the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2014 GMC Sierra 1500.[12]

Applications:

2014–present Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2014–present GMC Sierra 1500"

learn something new every day. The electronics on that thing make it all worthwhile and it's newer tech than the LS design

it did cross my mind the newer tech being used
maybe as a test engine for the ls even though
there is news the ugly mid engine vette is going
twin cam eventually chevy has to downsize and
go boost like Ford has and high tech or just
squeezy more out of pusrods.

I prefer pushrods like on the A series and who
knows if some of this cylinder deactivation will
get enough development like Benz engines where
the 6.3L twin turbos are getting 6-8L 100km
which is unprecedented in big engines.

To add its like what Nissan would do by persisting with pushrods
Like an A series with vvt, cylinder deactivation, direct injection,
all alloy construction, lightweight plastic manifolds, variable oil pump
and the list goes on. Its like the A series could have been something
like this v6 but in the size of the Vortech L43 2200 OHV engine.
The reality is for the street fat torque at low rpm to 4k is all
that factory cars should be tuning for, thats 90% of where cars live.

You got me thinking

I havent liked the 4.3, because for all the work of swapping it in, it's the same work to swap in the V8. And the 4.3 didn't make all that much power but I see that has changed now

I was just giving praise to the new design as recently
looking at an old 4.3 next to a vq35 I was surprised
of the width of the VQ, its huge!!! and thats without
the headers needed to let it flow well.

Its not all about power as some respect needs to be
paid to the era of the car. I wouldnt put a chev engine
into a datsun when Nissan has so many choices.
Yet on the v6 side of things or v8 they are truly massive
units that would take up too much in the engine bay
where an A series usually sits there so sweetly.

No fan also of the older 4.3 and if it came to a datto
the vg33 would be hard to beat for that period look.

VG33 with supercharger sitting with low adapter with no
runners fed by a front sidedraft weber would be sweet.
Dizzie replaced with DIS ignition etc.

320hp / 300lbs tq atw wouldnt be difficult in stock form
running water injection. It really is the most important
engine Nissan made and received the least recognition.
When the DET and DETT version was released no car could
really beat the old 300Zs and even today the fastest in
a quarter is 6.1 seconds!!!! and much lighter than a 2jz.
