problem is there is a better lighter v6 than the vq as it was designed specifically for weight reduction, more efficiency and tested by Maseratti and Roush in all kinds of performance endurance tunes including 12 million miles using factory employees.

The Datsun of America, Dodge or Chrysler Pentastar v6, its a work of art
more compact and block is even 20% lighter than GMs latest v6 also used by Alfa
look at the alternator its brackets and overall design. Even plastic rocker covers go not the usual halve way on cam centerlines but right under them!. Their version of Variable valve mechanism also in plastic!!!

cast in head exhaust manifold makes it easier for twin turbo add ons
Maybe someone can cnc some flanges to suit a popular turbo etc.

The vq35de is listed as 142kg which is almost the same weight
as the lightweight Toyota 3sge which is 4kgs heavier as is
the Chrysler Dodge Hemi 2 v8 engine!

However 400hp atw with bolt ons in such a compact package
albeit quite wide almost matches a Hemi in hp yet more rpms
and shorter in the bay at least. Its really the Japanese LS!

There is 8kg that can be removed from using a billet style
flywheel/clutch, 5kg from no power steering pump and a little
more from other areas if using no vve timing mechanisms etc.
Prob 120kg is possible billet alloy mains and girdle but that's
crazy moneys to replace the already quality steel units used.

SR like most of Honda engines are beefy heavy sandcast blocks
but the VQ is pressure die cast making up for the extra rods
while crankshaft and head of the SR are also heavy items.

Atm saving up to get a vq37 and use vq30 front cover to eliminate
the vve (albeit less hp), good springs, headers & honda vtx1800 carbs.
Likely better rods as well as this was the only reason Sascha
on SPeedacademy threws a rod at constant 9k rpm on a stock vq35de
bottom end with bolt ons. Always dreamed of owning a high screaming
v6 like the old NA Ferraris of the 50s. 8500rpm will be nuts
and hopefully the carbs can make better sound than they are known for.

Hoping to fit this into an S10 silvia or Locost one day but cost of
vq37 here is about 650 usd as a base.

Are they really lighter than the SR20DET? Both are alloy, but the VQ has more head bulk, more pistons, more crank, more manifolding, more block etc etc.

The great thing about the VQ is that it is common and inexpensive. Junkyard $227 engine that make 235-289 hp -- and now we find out it's lighter than an SR20DET four-cylinder

Here it's in all the Nissan V42 "Quest" minivans (2004-2009) and they sold over 200,000 of those in the US. Recycling yards are full of them

Just use the stock Nissan ECU to run the EFI, spark and CVTC. CVTC is good for 30% hp, without it will make less hp than the SR20DET. Of course if you like to lazy-shift (below 3000 rpm) then it won't come into play anyways

But how do you hook it up to a RWD transmission?

but stamped as a VQ20DE :))

VQ lighter than SR20DET!! and stock VQ is more HP than stock SR20DET

but does it fit in a 1200?

After years of looking the other way to the vq series v6 from Nissan
as the toyota version is smoother and longer lasting. I didnt realize
so much more power was possible from the VQ compared to the toyota v6.

I looked up the weight for the VQ fully dressed and it came to 10lbs
more than the fully dressed sr20ve and lighter than the sr20det so far.

With itbs, lighter flywheel, headers alone 320hp is possible and weight
reduction to 138kg which is equal to the SRVE lighter than srvet and F22c.

Looking further I found for the cost of these Nissan v6 engines which retail
at halve an SR of any sporting sort and 6 times cheaper than the Honda f22c

Then looking at max NA hp for the VQ35HR recently by an American enthusiast
was able to get Jim Wolf to supply a 4.2L stroker that made 600hp atwheels!
370+ lbs of torque!!!

Boosted they are getting over 1500hp but for the datsun guy on a budget a
junker vq35 with headers, vq25 inlet ported and a few more cheap bolt ons
nets 340hp and 280-300+lbs of torque which albeit not world leading but healthy.

There hasnt been as much development on this engine by Nissan for motorsport
but 600hp is very healthy considering its only a v6 with the capacity of most
japanese v8 engines.

Making it lighter than most SR and Honda F and K engines, this is a very overlooked
engine as its quite ugly like most modern engines but has now really got my attention.
