Gerard Gotch's mighty L20 powered 1200 coupe took 3rd place in 1601-2000cc class in the Australian Hillclimb Championships yesterday.

1st place was a MkII Escort with >$50K worth of YB Cosworth motor and insane $$ spent all over it. The owner claims 250rwbhp and rev limit up to 10,000rpm when needed!!! The Escort ran 52.38
2nd place was a Honda Civic EG with a very powerful K20 power 52.73
3rd was Gerard's L20 Datsun 1200 coupe 52.98
And Steve Brydie's SR20 powered Datsun 1200 coupe was 4th with 53.83 ahead of a bunch of other Escorts and Geminis.
Very good showing from the old school Dattos, only beaten by a pair of the very best twin cam motors ever made!

In the 0-1600cc class, Grant Liddell's A series 1200 coupe got 2nd place with a 58.08 behind another pesky Honda Civic, an earlier ED model this time, presumably with B16A VTEC power.

Thats tough to lose by so little but great to hear the sohc
is still got the goods to keep up and lose by less than a second.
Is Gotch`s L series a grunter?

Was the ford a millington build or just Cossie special?
Love to see a Les Collins 280-320hp Ka headed L series
in a 1200 body to destroy those ahead of it.

Thanks for posting cool stuff Harry.

The L20 powered cars in my run group are belting out 200HP at the wheels. they get around 8-10 hours out of a motor.

I so want a Cosworth BDA for my car but that's not going to ever happen.

The video link works great...…….I've now got 6 hours of fun to watch.
