Three build threads.... why not start another dedicated to the first 1200 I had/have.

As a timeline I bought this with my Dad about 25 to 30 years ago and we were going to race it. It was a boring white originally and needed a lot of work.
We kept the original motor as we were aiming at some sort of 1200 cc class.
But... it got a complete refresh including:
* Fully balanced bottom end
* Rebore (to i think 30 thou) after hottanking
* Lightened Flywheel
* GX head with L20 inlet valves
* Electronic ignition
Then we added
* Twin DCOE42 Webers
* Inlet manifold that came with the second hand webers
* Extractors
* Home made coilover front struts (no longer on there)
* Koni rear shockers
* Replaced the rear frame suspension bushes with steel ones
* Also added traction arms that are removed for now.
It had club rego back then but that lapsed and it went into storage.
Alas it sat in the container in the pictures for about 20 years ... dry but alone ....

Well Andy That was 6 months or so ago and YES we're pretty much just after the freshen up at the moment

The first photo was just after i gave it a sand back and a 'closed door blowover' - 3 coats of Nissan Beacon Red and 3 coats of clear (acrylic paint). having a shed i can drive through helps to clear out the dust before painting but i always get some little bits in the paint.
The next couple of photos were on display on the front lawn.
More later

A few weeks ago I took it to a Mechanic for a Road Worthy Certificate. he did me a favour and said "there's a few things to do before he could actually write it up.

Symptoms:
1. There's a noise in the gearbox/clutch area - getting louder each time I drive the car.
2. The engine won't idle below 2,000 revs.
3. The back rear wheel locks up sometimes and there's some fluid leakage in the drum.

So I took it to another mechanic because the first one said he didn't speak 'Weber' - this one said "it's only running on one carb" ... so for $80 (incl GST) he got it running nicely and it even idles (once it's warmed up)
I then logged on to eBay and purchased a new Exedy Clutch (with thrust bearing and pressure plate) and a set of rear wheel slave cylinders - no sense just doing one side.

Next stage was up on the hoist and get the g'box out. Funny, no oil came out when i took out the tailshaft. Not so funny there was no filler plug in the side of the gearbox. Even less funny .... no oil in the gearbox. Someone must have neglected to fill the gearbox when they were mucking around with it at some stage.

Thank the maker I have two spare gearboxes ... picked the 56A spare and got the bits in the post and reassembled everything.

Now there's no strange noise when I depress the clutch pedal.... fancy that.

BUT now I need to wait until the lockdown is over to get it back to the first mechanic for the RWC and then apply for the club plates.
