D

The E-series is a great idea and I can even buy three race prepped engines plus a bunch of spare from a fellow racer for 5K but at the end of the day it's not a straight bolt in. I have my single seater that will always be light years faster.

Prob worthwhile sourcing an E series while you still can
as speedway competitors move to E series from the A series.
E series engines are a little lighter as well and as you know
hemi crossflow AY like factory thingies.
Nissan copied Mazdas own 1980 released OHC hemi E series
they are almost identical looking architectures.

Tom, if you really want "smiles per miles", take an early A12 block with the distributor up front. Use an A15 crank with short con rods and short pistons. Everyone will assume right away it's a 1200 from the distributor location, and because you have a 1200 car. ... THAT's what I'm going to do with my 1200 race car.

At some point in life I may try to build one up with an E16 crank. At 1700cc 125whp is possible with a pretty moderate build.

In terms of miles and smiles/$ it's hard to go past a datto with an A series. I'll be keeping an eye on progress of the A!5
