i wonder how Nissan did these photos. They took pictures of the 1200 in front of a concrete wall, but they also have the same photo with a white background

Mr. K. was the maverick Nissan executive who became president of Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A. he launched the 240Z (story goes by personally replacing the Fairlady badges at the pier)

Quote:
"We are having a love affair with the Automobile. We do not want to build for you a chair to ride in on your freeways. American cars are built to be sofas. The Americans take their houses with them. We race to build a better car... and we race to win races." Yutaka Katayama to the press prior to the Laguna Seca race.

How did they expect the 1200 to perform in Group B with that high-port cylinder head?

I think you are right. I didn't see the OHC cam towers, but then the photo shows the bottom side of the head

in any case it doesn't match then engine photo which is a standard A12

It may have been a very strategic approach to homologate a specific race part (FIA head) which may have been otherwise knocked back, if listed with the stanzas etc by 1984. Or alternatively Nissan was laying the groundwork to race the b110 ( and derivatives) platform with the L series power in events such as the east Africa rally.. I would like to know the facts of the matter.

Interesting short blog

Quote:
The Sanitora was participating in the safari rally of 1983!

However, the entry name is not Sanitora, but NISSAN 1200 Pickup (that is, a truck). The driver is Iain Duncan/Gavin Bennett and what a ninth overall finish! At this time, Peugeot also entered the 504 pickup, but this is in 8th place, and Nissan loses in the truck showdown.

But it's great to say that the 1200cc truck played an active part against a strong opponent.

1983 is the year Nissan introduced the 240RS, with Giant Shah in fourth place on safari.

In Japanese, Mr. Iwase is 6th in the A10 Violet. Audi Quattro in opel ascona 400, 2 and 3rd place, and Subaru Leone in group 2 are fifth and seventh, so Sanitora's ninth place is how hard he fought. It was a fierce battle called 78 cars completed 22 cars.
