I have to say that I LOVE LOTUS SEVENS! I don't care if they are Caterhams, Birkins, Locosts, or homebuilts, I love the Lotus Seven!
I was at a race at the Motorsports Ranch weekend before last and spoke to the Birkin importer about his car. He had me sit in it to help him bleed the brakes. It was like slipping into a pair of pants. Everything just fit. Well ok, the pedal box was too narrow for my feet with my big honkin' shoes on, but barefoot it was fine. If I ever decide to get away from Datsuns but stay in the car hobby, I'm going to buy a Seven.
And no, I'm not a hairdresser!

imagine a RB26DETT in a datto

Imagine no more. Look at the RB26 SOHC with EFI and turbo in a 1200 [edit: it's an L26]:

close, but that's an L series engine!

oh, and Dimlight, why don't you stuff a rotary engine in it and make it fwd? then it would have everything!

The original lotus seven is OK, but the plethora of replicas out here with spaceframe chassis, fabricated suspensions, exotic body materials, and the latest and greatest modern engines etc racing against actual production sports cars like the Datsun Sports 2000 really tick me off...

Hey dattodude still waiting for a reply in the lancer brake master booster link

Caterhams are heaven sent with the 11.44 sec 0-160-0 what a rush that would b.

But I agree they race unfairly against classics with the 250 NA 96kg K-series s2000 rover/honda like engine, 6 speed box and all the latest race tech in an old 50 design were everything is except looks.

The 1000 at 580 race kgs still wins in japan against a plathora of other cars in the T1 1300cc class and could have been lethal if they werent stuck with the a10 in all its racing career. Even in Targa Tasmania and in racing throughout the world theyre stuck with the 3 bearing bottom end 1ltr!!! F***ng official c***suckers, yet they let this Lotus 7 in all classic race classes with todays latest tech!!
But wait theres more.. 2 years ago in Targa tasmania a gemini 4 door sedan with a b2600 late 90s engine and woping big turbo is allowed to enter and ends up 10th overall when the largest homologation it ever came with was an isuzu twin cam 2ltr and 2.2 in SS. Its because Geminis are mini holdens and the redneck branded car stands tall with officials in any shape or form. As were real jap owned cars (Isuzus were under holden badges and controlled by GM) get away with very little and receive little praise.
by the way guys with big engines in mind dont destroy your dattos with ideas of and L6 or other six. Sixes are heavy and destroy handling in small cars, the L6 is apparantely 8 pounds heavier than a ford 289 windsor

I can see where you are coming from there. I have no argument either way on that issue. Mine would be for the street and I promise, I would never race it against you on the track. Mainly because you are on the other side of the planet, but that's beside the point!
