anyone who uses the words 'formal education' in an argument to discredit someone is actually blowing more blue smoke out of their ass than an old ####ty triumph.

are you still gay? i though maybe it was a semi permanent thing lol.

By the way, you mentioned there being very few stags around. It is probably one of the more common triumphs here. Although Triumphs in general are one of the hardest cars to find here. I don't know of a single one left in my area.

I realise that in their day, Triumph made some good cars. And I also realise that they were probably better than stock datsuns that came out.

But the point I'm trying to get across is the fact that the reason we still have datsuns is because of the the great basis they make for modification.

People may see you driving a restored old Triumph or Jaguar or Porsche or whatever and recognise that it is a piece of history, and thats all good for someone like you.
Hell, when I'm your age I may even drive a stock restored series 7 RX7 SPII or whatever. It will be a piece of history but a ####box compared to what people will be building by then.

It is horses for courses mate, we accept that what you have is a collectors item that our cars will never be, but you have to accept that most of the things that we have will run rings around you in every performance aspect.

Both cars are good in their own way

ok enough with the insults - Steven you asked a question as to why and you received a couple of very valid reasons.
As far as the Triumph still in biz and Americans buying them up you are correct if - they are called Mazda Miata's
BMC et al put themselves out biz with mis-management , poor engineering and products rushed to market. A read a ton of Brtitsh car magazines and they are brutally honest about the decline of british sports cars. In fact a good deal of what went on in the British motor industry in the mid seventies would land people in jail under current SEC rules
Face it the Japanese knew what they were doing , the money shelled out for a TR6 , Spitfire or GT 6 would buy a 240Z. And lets face it Americans did buy a whole lot of these. British cars have a wonderful soul but frequent maintence intervals , compared to Japanese cars and there is lies appeal of both.
So here's an idea hook up with a 1200 guy and go for a spin and then take him for a ride in the TR - you will both be surprised.

yes, the Stag was a V8, but it was a lousy car. VERY FEW of them anywhere around as far as I know. I don't think I've ever seen one. The TR8 was one of the best Triumphs but it came too late to save the marque after the failure of the TR7. The Spitfire was a nice car, for a 4 cylinder.
