How did you get on with this?
I have Bilstein Escort ones in my coupe but I would like to replace the alloy top plate with something specifically designed for the Datsun (allowing more adjustment).

The spherical bearings I use in the adjustable tops I sell are $120 each. Remember they will have to take a 3 - 4 G's axial load on road when you hit a bump so you need a good safety factor on top of that. I am now looking at making Urethane sandwich tops to cut costs.

yeah ah, not much has happend as i spoke to feral and he told me the price of the bearings, and i've been holidaying
i'll still be looking at designs though, i've had someone tell me he could get somethings made up for free if i could draw them, so maybe i could get a trial set made up for free at least

My Bilstein tops are round alloy with slots for camber adjustment and 3 sets of 5 holes around the perimeter for castor adjustment.
I would prefer something designed specifically for the 1200 more like this strut top The only thing is I don't know what you'd do for castor adjustment, maybe an eccentric for the bearing, maybe only have adjustment via castor rods (radius rods)

link didnt work but i saw the pic in the album,
yeah looks alright but i was hoping to get castor aswell, i have some cad pics that were sent to me of a setup similar to yours, ill post em too soon problem with using castors rods is that all you end up doing is loading up the rest of the suspension by pulling it forward, and therefore the control arm sits awkward on its mount (rubber bush to crossmember) and in general the system is more likely to fail i'll have to get more serious about this as people seem to be eagerly awaiting a result

The link is all fixed, you wouldn't believe but I missed out the 1200 in Datsun1200.com.
I have adjustable bottom arms with rod ends, so thats not an issue for me, but it would be nice to have adjustment at the top.

i'd like to get the control arms too, but i can't see myself getting them soon considering the price and what other stuff i need first
my only concern with them also is that if i have to increase the track too much my rally tyres will be hitting the gaurds i think i can actually improve my camber by getting the front a little lower (was raised when i put stanza struts with 1200 springs in giving me positive camber), but im worried ill start hitting everything with the front of my car, need to put my bash plate on i guess the fact that i think i can improve camber other ways has meant i wasn't as keen on doing the adj strut tops, but im all fired up again now ![]() the pics are up now can you explain the castor adjustment the tops of the struts on your car have again, i didn't really understand how it works "3 sets of 5 holes"?
