might not interest too many people here, but I can't help it - this is the best news I've heard all year!

Lakeside Raceway which was bought and subsequently closed about 18 months ago by the local council after the operaters went bankrupt, now has permanent Heritage listing thanks to a group of supporters up here lobbying council and State Goverment. This is a world first for a racetrack, and recognises the cultural significance of the site. It also secures the site as a facility for that cultural activity - motorsport. It means that Lakeside cannot go the same way as Amaroo, Surfers Paradise and others and become a housing estate. This is a great day for Aussie Motorsport!

Thats awsome...yes it was a shame about Amaroo...lots of stuck up upper middle class executives that partitioned it out of existance.
They name the estate Amaroo Estate but why??? So some wanker can show off to his friends he doesnt really like that he lives on a part of a former racetrack. Finally the motorsport world gets on the front foot instead of always being on the back foot!!!

That is interesting. The same lobbying is taking place in New York. In California they put up a monument to Riverside race track at the entrance of the new housing development.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.

well, it's not open yet, but at least the track is safe. they are still working with council to get the track re-opened for motorsport. Heritage listing also means the owners are not allowed to let the facility fall into a state of disrepair, so if they have to maintain it I guess they will want the facility to 'earn it's keep' and recoup some of the money that they will have to spend on it. The only way to do that is to hold events there.

This was the place I first got the bug in 'driver training' days organised by the Datsun Car Club, which had some timed laps at the end of the day. My car was still very much in road spec when I drove there, so I'd kill to get back out there and see what times I can do now with the much improved suspension, engine and race tyres.

The recent work at Mt Cotton was putting in a proper hotmix return road, and a hotmix road through the paddock area, as well as alot of earthworks around the grounds and spectator areas. The track itself is unchanged. I haven't raced there this year, but was out there on Monday watching angrywabbit and a few other friends competing. It looks like competition in our 1601-2000cc class will be pretty strong at the QLD Championships at the end of the month - especially if Danny Mischok turns up in his Cosworth powered MkII Escort.
