Yep I agree I loved Group A it was diverse and far more interesting. Now without naming names I spent some time in Oz and NZ as a fabricator for the Group A Holden and Ford teams and none of the cars were really production based even in the 80s. Cheating is only against the rules if you get caught and they all did it.!! That is why I would like to see Nissan enter a works entry into the Nations Cup series and run the Bathurst 24 Hrs because I seriously think they could kick arse.

this whole conversation started out of asking a simple Q about 3.3L lol , interesting - and i agree 1200rallycar, that whole ford/holden bullshit is pathetic, they both have their good things and bad things.

I still think this guys wasting his time putting in an EFI 202 in a 120Y, and about motorracing...talking about hijacking a thread!!!
The V8's were a way of bringing back the old fans who were into the holden/ford thing of the early seventies....and it worked. Purists like myself really liked the group A formula too....but there not enough of them out there to keep the series profitable. Im prepared to back the series if it keeps people from getting into AFL or Soccer or something stupid like that.. Then they will slowly turn to other forms of motorsport once bitten by the bug. The V8s are big cumbersome overpowered and under tyred but sound and look the part. But to have a 1200 with a minimum budget that does the same lap times as a V8 supercar is my goal.

good luck converted!!! Only the top couple of Sport Sedans in the country post faster lap times than the V8 SuperTaxi's.

Actually, the Group1 Nation's Cup cars match them, at least at some tracks.

Harry you might know about the 1000 coupe with the injected 13b original shocks and drums who was 4 tenths of a second from the lakeside lap record? He then upgraded his brakes and shocks and never heard of him again just that his selling that race car the one with huge ugly but purposeful flares and green and purple paint? Any info from you about that car and dirver? anyone in queensland?
If that almost lap record is true then it sounds like a dream come true for a budget race car.
As for Bathurst... Im through with that wankk as soon as they banned rotaries then turboes then all other brands bar the current crop of dinosaurs. If they were to try and interest me a micro sinch then its by at least seen the v8s against turbo 6 falcons and v6 supercharged commondores to make it more interesting.
A little more mix than windsors and chev engines could go a long way.
Imagine in japan they only raced mitsubishi 2.6 astron and toyota 2.7 3RZ fours in updated bodies...?? then maybe thats even better.

Yeah D here it is, Gary Hamiltons 1000 coupe he had it for sale for around 15 grand.
Now for the skeptics....this coupe did a 57.71 at Qld Raceway 14/4/02 amd the V8 supercars were lapping at the Qld 500 1.11.74.
That coupe was a full 14 secs a lap quicker than the quickest supercar.
For proof here are the links
coupe times:-racetime results ssedan 14/4/02
V8 Supercar times:-racetimme vip petfoods qld 500 2002

Datsun 100 Coupe sports sedan

Hows that...400 grand per car versus 15grand and you would have to spend another 400 grand to get a V8 Supercar to get within a few seconds of the 1000 Coupes times...GO FIGURE.
Now all members...appreciate what weve got in this club...the best kept secret in the motor racing world

people should worry about what 'they' like.... rather than worry about bagging people for having different interests...... i personally like all types of motorsport.... some more than others of course..... apparently in 2006 mitsubishi is joining the v8 supercars with an all new v8 mitsu...
wonder if its gonna be a magna???
