Im thinking bout using the craig davies water pump and undecided brand electric fuel pump to get a little more from the A14. Anyone know of problems associated with these? Ive had probs witht the electric fuel pump and had to revert back to mechanical for previous rides as they heated up in summertime and stopped. However I hear good things bout the CD water pump.
suggestions please
Of course Ill be running thermo fans and thinking of a block off plate instead of the old water pump. anyone done it??

electric fuel pumps are awesome

electric water pumps are damn expensive, for the price there is a million better ways to get ten times the power gain

unless you know where you can get em cheap???, cause ive only seen em for like 300 and the contoller is another 300 (but dont have to use that)

I believe Autospeed did a test on them and found the energy save by the water pump was used by the electrical energy required to power the water pump. The net benefit was zilch for a big buck outlay????????

oh yeah, actually now you mention it i remeber reading that, i was thinking about getting one after a little PM conversation i had with D too, they have some cool features like the pump running on after the car stops (like turbo timer), so the water doesnt boil in the block and climate control for the motor

But the advantage is that while the thermostat is open, you can let the head, block and turbo (If you have one), cool down after you've turned the engine off. You could use a turbo timer to control it. This is the main reason I'd get one. I've thought about getting some parts together to do the same with the oil system. Using an external oil cooler.

Chris

EDIT : Doh! 1200RC beat me to pushing "post", great minds...

A friend had one inhis 1600 Kent engined Lotus 7 lookalike and it bit the dust after about a month. The mechanical seal failed and allowed water into the electrics. He got a replacement from Davies Craig who were genuinely concerned as they claimed to never had that problem occur before. The replacement is still running fine.

Personally I think he fitted it for wank value..that is something to brag about to everyone who doe'snt have or need one. It definately keeps it cool. And the motor is a strong one with around 140Hp at the flywheel.

I have been looking at a manufacturing a turbo accumulator that stores oil through a one way valve while the engine is running. The oil is stored in a spring loaded piston canister.

When you turn the engine off, the oil continues to bleed through another one way valve and cool the turbo housing.

So much to do in so little time !! !!
