How easy is it to get hold of A series 5 speeds in Aus? There are extinct here.. I have only ever managed to find one. Just wondering as a friend is going to be shipping a 720 ute back from Sydney soon and I could chuck one in the back of it.

A series 5 speeds are very hard to get here and bring big bucks. To recondition one typically costs $350 - $400 and they bring $750 when done up.
The 63A boxes are like gold. I have only had two in the last 4-5 years. I have heard of suzuki 4wd owners paying $1400 for them.

There is also a dogleg shift pattern 60 series box as well as the 63A box. The box number is 60A #9 or something like that.

The only one I have ever found was a brand new one and I paid roughly $450 for it so I guess that was a bargain.

The only place the A series 5 speeds seem reasonably easy to find is the US it would appear. Hey, maybe I can make a cable shifter to work a vanette 'box! Hmmm...

1200rallycar, are you certain you don't have the rare as F5W56 direct 1:1 5-speed? They look just like the F4W56 4-speed (not that I've actually ever seen the 5-er). [edit: the B110 5-speed is numbered F5C56A]

yes micheal, quick way to tell if it's a 5w56 is,where is the drain plug for the box.if it's in the sandwich plate between the front & rear housings, thats definitely a 1 to 1 five speed.& yes i found 4 speeds that'll pop into the 5th gear position.the next question is,where's reverse.if it's to the left & forward,it's a 5w56.if it's to the right & back, take it back & get your money back.also, when its in the 'fifth' possie, can you turn the input shaft, but hold the output, use a gearbox plug if possible to hold it.good luck, hope it's not a dud.
