Aren't the Nissan differentials made by Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru)?

I know this may be getting a little of topic so please don't flame me.

My Triumph 2500 Saloon has IRS and sliding spline half shafts. Apparently like many other things - Datsun took that design - and the same bolt patterns etc and came up with a ball bearing based sliding half-shaft design for the datto 1600 or something.

Some people with Triumph 2500's do conversions to the datsun halfshafts 'cos they're better.

I have also heard of one person in N.Z> that fit a Subaru LSD centre to his Triumph.

I think therefore we may be talking about a similar diff. Which means of course I am very interested also in the outcome of this subaru diff installation as I may be able to do the same thing on my 2500 whilst also sticking the datsun half-shafts in.

If anyone knows more about these half-shafts that I may be tracking down please comment.

Yes and R160 used in Leone, Legacy, Impresa etc is exactly same as R160 in Datsun 1600. And H165B has same differential as R160 but in rear-axle casing.

If H is for Hitachi what is R (as in R160, R180 and R200) for?

Just as a little aside if you want to know the type of diff and ratio fitted to a particular vehicle, look at the trans section of the ID plate and the following table applies :-

HA= H150
HB = H150A
HC = H165B
HD =H190 (aluminium carrier)
HE = H190 (iron carrier)
HF = H190 A (reinforced iron carrier)
HG = H233B (Urvan diff)
RA= R160
RB = R180
RC = R200
CA = C200
CB = C216
The number after these letters is the diff ratio - eg HC41 - H165B with 4.1 gears
HA41 = H150 with 4.1 gears.
Another piece of useless information for the brain cells. Doh! my D drive hurts!

Naukiss,
The R160 and H165 have totally different carriers and cannot be interchanged at least the ones I have played with

Japanese are brilliant for this. Its not overengineering, its called reengineering.
You take (steal) a design. And to get around copyright you alter it. But Nips don't just alter it, they make it 100% better. Bast$rds.

Best example I can think of is the rotary. Wait jsut a minute isn't it cale something like a Wankel Rotary enigne. Yes too right it is. Some Europe(or is it German) by the name of Wankel actually designed the engine pretty much on his own. It was good as a lead weight. & Nips from Mazda in Hiroshima (after a big H something hit it, trigger happy Americans) took the design and said we're going to build this engine, for the mass. Took em a while, nearly failed but they did succeed. The the americans fuc*ed up oil prices and Mazda and their thirsty rotaries near went under. Wonder how they would have gone if Fuel crisis didn't occur? Maybe fuel eficient rotarys. mmmm
Food for thought

in a rough red-neck way charlie does have a point. the Japanese do have a record of taking other peoples designs and failed projects and redesigning them and turning them into a success story.
go the japs!!
