fm1200 Posted on: 2003/8/26 13:25
Talked to a diff guru today.
Told him i wanted an lsd 4 my 1200ute,he said "H165,yeh i`ve been looking at that subaru lsd centre on the shelf & i reckon that it wouldn`t take much to make it fit! Same splines,160mm diameter, hmmm? That`s only 5mm (mumble,mumble-scratch,scratch). Let me work on it," he said "give us a call in a week or so & i`ll tell ya how i went"

I said
"So how much you reckon?"
He said "About $500 for the centre, hmmm (scratch, scratch) maybe i`ll do a deal, give us your centre & that`ll make it $300,then i`ll probably want $150 to fit it. How`s that sound? Alright?"

Isaid "FUCK YEH ! ! ! I`ll call u next week"

Keep u all posted & if it works out will supply details.

Is the LSD a plate and clutch type or is it a viscious one? It is my understanding that most Subaru ones are the viscious ones and can't be rebuilt once they have been worn out. Maybe your diff man will be able to offer his opinion.

I've known of people using WRX irs diffs in their 1600's but my mate was breaking them with his L-series, so no doubt my thing would eat a few. In general Subaru aren't known for over engineering.

With all due respect, sounds like your drag racing mate needs a 9-inch!
Who in their right minds would think manufacturers of production vehicles over-engineer any components! I thought the whole idea of modifying a vehicle was to over-engineer it with stronger components?

700kg 1200, 1400kg+ subaru? Sounds like good mathematics to me !

Talking to my diff guy in a few days, talk to you`s then.

Have you looked at an R200 LSD lately? ..Over Engineered for sure

SR20DET, you can get 300% more power out of the stock internals..not over engineered? Ha..

Nissan..the master of overengineering.

As for Subarus.. Girls cars

Is it out of an AWD subaru.....because 1400kgs divided by 2 diffs = 700kgs per diff....

They call the R200 the japanese 9 inch. Nissan (like toyota) are the masters of over engineering, Chris mentioned the SR's, but what about the RB26DETT, 11's with standard turbo's and 10's with standard bottom ends. Don't start me on Subaru and their glass gearboxes

Ring ding ding.. Ring Ding DIng...
Brrrrrrr.....

There started. I want to hear about glass gearboxes.

Nip brands (Nis/Toyota) overengineering. True. Pity they don't do this for the shells who's best mates Mr.Rust There's always a draw back.
