I just measured an R160 pinion gear and if it could be installed in an H165B carrier the pinion gear would be sticking 30 mm out the back of the housing of the diff. These are two completly different designs of diff, as are the H190 and R200.

Pinion gears and ring gears do not interchange inspite of what the site may say.

In my nismo catalogue the lsd centres are not interchangeable and have different dimensions. H165 ring gear 165mm OD and 102 ID; R160 ring gear 160mm OD and 102 Id. I have posted a pic of the R200 crown and pinion next to an H190 diff.

There's three different H190 centres that I know of, and most of the parts arent interchangeable between them.
I've used R200 slippery plates in the H190's, but have never made the whole slippery unit fit.
Havent tried all the combinations though....

So, if i was to have a H190 diff, converting it to LSD i'd be able to use the R200 LSD mech (from an S13, silvias, etc)? These aren't exactly rare, what's the going rate for an LSD R200?

I guess the British took all the german technology after the war, tried to copy it, discovered that their casting and fabrication technology wasnt up to it and so put 27 different size whitworth thread bolts in everything in a vain attempt to keep the oil in.

At last ! someone with some correct information.
I was beginning to believe that my diff guy spun me some B/S; and after reading some of the replies posted here,promptly rang him for some convincing evidence!
He assurred me that all was above-board & not to believe everything I read.
He`s running a little behind in his work and it should`nt be to long before diff`s in.

Mazda didn't "steal" the rotary engine design. They bought a license from NSU for the Wankel engine design, just like nearly every other Japanese and American auto manufacturer did. Mazda simply had the guts to stick with it when everyone else gave up. There's even a photo of Nissan's rotary in our Photo Album.

Technically, the americans didn't run up the gas prices. The cartel of petroleum-producing countries (OPEC) restricted the oil supply and thus prices rose per supply-and-demand economy.

But yeah, Japanese industry does have a reputation of taking ideas and (eventually) improving them beyond the original products from other companies. Call it the tireless pursuit of excellence ...

in a rough red-neck way charlie does have a point. the Japanese do have a record of taking other peoples designs and failed projects and redesigning them and turning them into a success story.
