Does anybody know of an adjustable panhard rod that would suitable for a 1200 coupe?

Just asking to see if anyone can reccommend an adjustable panhard rod off another vehicle that could be suitable for the 1200.

You will probably have to make it yourself or get someone to help you--- any of the reasonable modifiers in sin city sould be able to help.
Don't forget to have multiple (say3-4 each end) pickup points so you can adjust roll centre up or down.

benny, whiteline custom makes that sort of stuff, but maybe a gemini watts link could be used instead.cant think of a production car with an adjustable panhard, but i seem to remember seeing a panhard rod under a ke70 corolla once,or maybe it was a sprinter.

Try and keep the panhard as long as possible and level as possible at normal ride height to minimise axle side motion.

A good reference is HP books "How to make your car Handle" by Fred Puhn PP151

This is a panhard rod isn't it?
Any decent machine shop should be able to make one up. My buddy from school (Aaron) got one made for his first Micra about back in 2001. Didn't cost very much either. Is the hassle getting/making the mounts on the car (does a 1200 coupe have a panhard standard)?

The coupe out of all of the Datsuns, needs a panhard rod the least. But none of the Datsun 1200s come standard with panhard rods. The angled shock absorbers work a bit like a panhard rod. On sedans where it's all up and down..The rear axle can move sideways up to 2 inches with sticky tires and hard cornering.

I like to use a *cough* Gemini *cough* panhard rod. You shouldn't need to adjust the panhard rod, unless you wildly change the ride height, in which case you should be moving the body/diff mounting points to keep the bar horizontal, as Errol said.

Generally, panhard rods are only found on 4-link coilover type suspension systems. With 1200s, the leaf springs help to locate the axle reasonably well for "normal conditions".

How is the frame mount done?

I'm surprised that the Datsun 1200 Competition Suspension instructions didn't recommend a panhard rod. Anybody know why?

If you want to keep it Nissan ...have a look under the FWD Bluebirds they have some really neat adjustable top links in the arse end. They make good radius rods as well....I posted a pic of them in the photos section (suspension)

Benny, I had one 1200 racing Coupe with a Panhard rod and the leaf springs. Because ANY panhard rod swings in an arc (gets shorter both above and below it's static center line), the rod RIPPED it's frame out of the car. There was not enough side to side movement in the leaf spring mountings. If keeping leaf springs, you would probably be better off using traction bars on the front half of each spring. Peter

holden ones can be cut to lenght but why bother. for my girlfriends mk 1esky we got a piece of alloy rod cut to size and threds tapped in each end. we made a bracket to hang off the chassis and a small bolt like rod welded on one leaf bracket and fitted rose joints. no broblems and it cost us half of a speed shop one, and it looks better.
