You say that one of your cars was a "sept '69" one. Is this when it was first registered, when it was built, or does it have some sort of compliance plate with that date on it?
A car that was actually "built" in Sept '69 would be a "'70 model", regardless of when it was registered.

If you back up [down?] the thread, you will see where i have writen a whole stack of serial numbers & you may be able to pick the model from that. If not, then see if you can post, or PM me the serial number & i will tell you what my parts book says.

With the popularity of these early Datsuns, i am beginning to think i was 20 years ahead of the game. Most people laughed at mine,... till i drove by them,... towing a boat,... uphill, then they just thought i was eccentric.

My 1000 2 door sedan today was first registered in 1970 and its an early 1968 one that sat in a country nissan dealership before it was reduced in price to clear the showroom for the 1200s coming in. It has the short tail lights and early grill (the one after the aluminium one) and the owners apparantely had eyed it for 2 years before the day came in 1970.
Vicroads here think its a 1970 built car.
But it has no Australian compliance plate which makes it a 68 model.
I think the last one rolled of the line in late 69 and I had a sept 69 one with 23,000 miles my mate bought from me with original japanese shipping papers and has the late long type lights (2 door sedan).
There could have been registered in 1970 but maybe some did get built or assembled in early 1970 to get rid of stock laying round.

Speaking of ads...here's one from that was in magazines here in early 1969. The car pictured is the actual one I own now!

I haven't done an update on my site in months but have stacks of stuff to go on. More B10 stuff would be most welcome.
Ah, winter is coming now so I should get time for some big updates.

With a March 1970 introduction for the 1200 i am very much inclined to agree with you. It's entirely possible that B10 production may have been ramped up a little at the end to allow for the lost time in the model changeover.

I was just checking out your site. Impressive! I will see if i can get a KB10 magazine ad to you before too long. I also have some newspaper ads for B10 models but the B20 one might be of interest, if i can fit it in the scanner.

There is a strong possibility that none came off the line in 1970. The new model introduction service bulletin for the Datsun 1200 I have is dated March 1970. So assuming that this bulletin would have been distributed very shortly before the models made there way into dealers, some 1200's would have already had to have been assembled. Prior to that the assembly line would have had some downtime to re-tool for a new model so thinking about it - it does seem unlikely they would have actually built them in 1970. They would most likely hav had enough stock from the 1969 production run to tide them over until the new model was available. sound reasonable?

As i had writen before, the 1970 Datsun 1000 was made FROM July 1969, so i guess that they made most, if not all of them before callendar year 1970. This is where some confusion can easily sneak in when the "model year" does not align with the callendar year.
The original question was "were Datsun 1000's "built" in 1970", & so help me, short of contacting the factory, i do not know for sure how to find out.
At this stage, i will speculate that the last of them were manufactured in 1970, but i can't prove it.

That is possible. I believe some early Datsuns sold here were actually shipped from Japan to Holland before being shipped over here. that would have taken some time. The car probably wouldn't have sat around for long once it was over here though, as there was a very limited supply of Datsun 1000's.

According to my parts book, the '70 model sedan was numbered from B10-350-001 for right drive cars. It looks like you have a '69 model car [from B10-250,001 for 2 door & from B10-200,001 for 4 door, right drive]
It is not uncommon even today for some cars to remain unsold for quite a long time & it would appear that your car may have been as much as a year old before some lucky buyer took it home.

I used to own a B10 four door sedan that was originally registered new in February 1970. The chassis number was B10-305152. I'd guess you'd have to allow four months from being manufactured in Japan to being registred here in the UK at least so that would make it late 1969.
I have a Swiss Datsun brochure that, although not dated mentions production figures as-of November 1969. That brochure still shows the B10 in the model line up, although strangely the model shown appears to be a '68.
