If I was baggin you dattodave I would have used one of these instead of one of these ; and probably a few of these ####. But not as many as you used !

I was only questioning your source of incorrect information !

That`s what this forum is all about dude, question & answer time.
If you don`t like the answers, don`t ask the questions!

No need for so much swearing LOL
Ca18det into 1200 coupe, sedan and wagon is legal if done correctly working from the RTA guidlines. Vehicle weight X 3 for NA engine and X 2.5 for turbo so 740kg =1850cc turbo or a 2220cc No turbo. A ca18det into 1200 ute is not 680kg x 2.5 = 1700cc but I have still seen some regoed maybe they have to pay the engineer more to fudge it up a bit or something???
cheers Andrew

RTA Recognised Engineering Signatorys use the "original weight" taken from the original "tare weight" of the sedan version of the vehicle model, with the largest engine available for that model (but without A/C or towbar). This weight is 730kg.
Basically what this means is even if you have the ute,it`s weight is taken from the sedan. So technically,my ute weighs 730kg !! hahaha.
These arn`t my rules, they`re quoted directly from RTA Information Sheet #6, page 3,under "Replacement Engine".

Hope this clears things up?

Ahhh....

Now I see why the CA18DET is such a popular conversion. It's pretty much the most bang you can get legally under the hood of a 1200.

I'm dropping a CA18DE into a 4dr...just for use as a track car, no intention of reg.

But maybe if I get real keen I could do a SR20DE conversion and still stay in the under 2L class!
