The Fast and Furious was the biggest joke! That Dodge would've wasted the Supra no problem in reality in a drag race like that. The sequel was worse than the first one too I think.

I've actually been to street races like in the first one with hundreds of people/cars lined up along the sides in an industrial/warehouse part of Seattle, it was fun, but there are a LOT of idiots out there that DO NOT know how to drive and put everyone in danger just by being behind the wheel. I usually stuck behind the starting lines and off to the side still inside my car or really close to it in case cops ever showed up (which they always did) and to stay away from the idiots. That was my first exposure to such a thing and it was fun to go. Everyone met at one 7/11 every weekend, everyone had cell phones and police scanners, and left there at midnight. It actually worked really good, the "leaders" would decide which location to go to out of several and everyone would just call each other on cell phones or just follow the crowd. It was amazing to be part of a 50-100 car pack cruising through the empty streets way over the speed limit. The police would come, but they couldn't do anything because there were so many cars speeding...they'd go for the stragglers in the back and the obviously more illegal cars. If you stayed in the middle of the pack you'd be fine. I never took my own car, I just drove up with friends. I did race a couple times in my friend's grandfather's 86 Ford Ranger and managed to beat a few people...that was hilarious. I don't go anymore, they had a big crackdown on it and stiffened the laws. It was always something to do late at night on weekends, the only reasons we went is there was nothing else to do and we love racing. I'm sure someone will flip me crap about "street racing" but everybody does stupid things when they're young because the immediate fun factor always came before worrying about consequences. I try to stick to the track now.

Anyway after Fast and Furious came out and brought street racing even more public, everybody freaked out and cracked down on it...but at the same time it's gotten more popular so now it seems like it's a huge deal if someone admits to street racing. When I was in high school my Datsun was the only hopped up import car, and the only other guys into racing drove Mustangs, Camaros, or muscle cars....most of which knew how to drive. Now at least 50% of the cars at my old school are Ricers and ALL of them try to drive fast and race, making the roads a lot more dangerous. I kinda wish those GAY movies never came out, now everyone in a Ricer thinks they've got something to prove.

can't believe I haven't linked this sooner. you can't talk about Rover V8's without seeing this crazy Mini. And it fits without firewall mods!

the added bit about the 1200 up the road was sposed to give away that i was talking shiet about fast an the furious

though now its been expanded on, why if the chrager was a 10sec car could a 10sec supra not keep up, theres a good reason why those numbers match

[edit] that mini's engine bay is as tight as a nun's ....., hate to have to fix anything on it

The wheelstand in the movie was in the script, presumably to give the audience a bit of a thrill. Could the charger really do it? Probably, but it would need the traction & unless it was set up for it, wheelspin would be the likely outcome, so i have assumed the "stand" was a stunt.

I have no reservations in accepting that the Charger could easily be a genuine 10sec [or better] car, but the Supra? Naaaa, maybee, if it was sucking on enough laughing gas, on it's best day, but i would have to regarded it as having a grenade motor. You know, i think it would have the performance & life expectancy of one.

Those old 50's era Chrysler blocks didn't reach the upper limits of structural integrity untill they started pushing 2,000 hp, so the street version in the movie should live just about forever. It could easily be redlined as low as 6'000rpm, but the high tech jobs need rev limits higher than i can count.
That hemi thing would develop enough torque to drag Melbourne over to Adelade. I really like torque. It might be a 54 year old design, but it STILL sets the benchmark for others to measure up to.

Anyway, thats enough distraction for now, so i will drop it & try to stick to Datsun stuff.

so they didn't call that movie 'the fake & the fatuous' for nothing.i made the mistake of seeing that movie on it's first night,& the entire cinema was full of 'ricers' on their mobiles to all their bro's about this fully sic movie they were at.me,i was trying hard not to laugh out loud.

I do know of one Supra that would fit the bill. It's the personal car of a fellow that owns a company that sells Mk. 4 Supra goodies. It was for sale last time I knew for 71,000 USD. Dynoed at 902 bhp, 1015 bhp with nitrous. Claimed 0-60 (or 0-100 if you prefer) of 2.65 sec.

There are supras doing 8s so it would be possible to get a road legal one to do 10s (obviously not that one)

Techinally I think it was supposed to be a TRD 3000GT not a supra anyway

But yes the whole movie was fake. And the dodge looked better

I laughed out loud at the movies when the Dodge pulled the wheelie , it did'nt look right to me..but I bought the DVD for my boys and on it it shows how the makers took a couple of days to get the black beast to do that wheel stand, it had massive fueling problems but according to the doco it was real not generated. As for the movie beig a little shakey, it was good entertainment..hell Mad Max was'nt real but it is a good car movie ...The part in FnF that had me really laughing was the street race with the green ####ta that had the alloy floor panel popping off leaving a rather large hole. Minutes later Vin Diesal's character jumps into the passenger seat in an effort to get away from the cops..where did he put his feet.
