Once Errol has sold his wife and his left nut he will have enough coin to purchase what I would consider the ultimate 1200 engine a genuine ex works LZ14 twin cam as fitted to the 76 factory coupes with mechanical injection and dry sump...thats all, nothing special really I suppose, I don't know why he is getting excited?... I mean hell there must be at least what,.. 20 of them left in the world,

He He this thread is starting out like the rotary one...people seem to have very strong opinions on engines on this forum. I think the Rover V8 is an awesome engine, in it's Oldsmobile form I think it was the worlds first turbocharged production car engine. In the mid 60s and it had a crude form of water/alcohol injection to stop pinging. The age of an engines design doen't mean it is inferior it must be good to stay in production..I mean our beloved A series has been powering cars since 1970 and is still going strong in the Bakkies. Building HP in a Rover isn't hard and with a combination of Holden and Chev parts (they are all GM anyway) you can build a strong durable engine. BCF is correct about weights too I have built a couple of MGB V8s and the Rover only weighs more than the CI 4 potter after adding the coolant. I have got up to over 150MPH in a MGBGT with a 3.9 Rover based engine...I know this speed was accurate because the cop who pulled me up verified it !!!! I have seen Rovers dropped in Dattos and they fit well though as I get older I seem to becoming more of a purist. I have to say nothing makes a better noise than a strong V8 at full cry....pommy or other wise I admit it guys I must be a bogan with no chance of recovery.

Well if I can get that mass back a further half block distance, then its probably no worse than having a big fat bugger as a passenger (or driver )

Starting to sound like a sports sedan now isnt it Ah well dream on.
I have other 4 cylinder fish to fry at the moment

because back to my first point, the barstard weights 155kg more than stock

and as you should know this is gonna seriously screw up any handeling or braking

oh, and the plastic sleeve around number one, but thats not what this discussion is about

pet hate:

people braging bout alloy this and that without quoting actuall weights

cause in my experience the alloy stuff is never really THAT much lighter that its the fantastic thing people make it out to be

bah

turbo a small motor (4cyl)

get the same speed, much less wieght, great handeling and it will actually stop!!!

wake up peoples, force fed is the only way to go, V8 is redundant!

well that said there is one use for large capacity, and thats pulling heavy weights, i.e. botas/caravans but having one just to pull the weight of the motor itself is rediculous

so yeah, morale of the story, unless you just want to point and shoot, forget the v8 there is no advantage!

nuff said

The only advantage the Rover engine has is they are light and in stock form make a good amount of torque.

The Matich SR5 and the Traco olds were my dream cars when I was a young tacker, and they were unbeatable on the day they held together. Franch Matich got some pretty good stuff together for his time.

I think the small block Chevs are a good as well, but where can you get an alloy block for them at a reasonable price??? The blocks cost an arm and leg. I reckon you might as well get a Nissan VH41/45 and do it up

What money does he want for the rover and box? This is not Steve P is it?
