silvia gbox shifter comes out further back, i think 4inches

you need a ca20 bellhousing and skline stumpy gbox for it to come out in the same spot as standard

yep.. as 1200rc said

u need an MR30 skyline 5spd
and mate it up with the original ca18 5spd bellhousing... or a cheaper option is to get the bellhousing out of a series III bluebird with a ca20 and use that... saves u buying the ca18 gearbox...

Yes, I suspect it just wouldn't work.

Unless you have freaky short forearms.

The S3 Bluebird bellhousing and stumpy skyline come up completely in the middle of the original auto tunnel hole. You can use the original 1200 gearbox mount points on the body with a modified crossmember.

you'll be able to use the original mounts if you had an auto tunnel... and since its a ute you wont.. so you'll have to remove the original mounting points to fit the gearbox into the tunnel

this is where it comes out: click for pic

the end of the top section of the pic is basically the end of the ute cabin.

im running the ca18det box in mine.. when driving one of these utes with the gear box back about 3'' its easier for quiker changes
dont reccomend the weaker box unless the ca isnt workd.. as they are weak...
why not do the job properely and put the original box in with that motor...?
little bit more work but is worth it...

Is it possible to use the CA18 box and a different bellhousing?

That could be a silly question, as I'm unsure if the CA18 box has a removable housing.

If so, it would be a good idea to use the stock box with a smaller housing, correct?

Comments?

The slightly shorter Gazelle gearbox has similar internals to the CA18DET box, but it's about AU$500 to buy second hand.

I can't remember what type of gazelle, or if the bellhousing is the same, only that it "can" be used with a CA18, and that it's 10-15cms shorter than the CA18DET box. It's expensive pricetag made me stick with the stock gearbox.

So there you go.

What I've yet to determine, and would be interested if someone could clue me in is....

How much mucking around is there in doing a change over of the L24 stumpy internals into a CA housing?

I'm the first to admit I'm no gearbox expert and am more than willing to be elightened.
