1200rc, I think the main reason people mini-tub is to keep the wheels inside the guards, as there is no way a car is will get engineered with the wheels sticking 2 inches outside the guards.
...plus it looks AWFUL!!!! That'd be my reasons for mini-tubbing anyway...

agree with madtimo
dont get flares on your ute they lok awfull.. all u need is 2 get a hilux diff get it shortened and relocate your leaf sprig set up in ward about 4 '' and new set of wheel arches as (TUFFAZ) yellow ute has done.. very neat and alt more traction and still can driev around corners on boost and not have 2 worry..

That was my plan dvldat but it is much easier to buy the mini tubs as there is someone out there that makes them. so all you have to do is cut the width to suit and weld them in. i have a mazdea bravo diff that wasn't shortened to fit and was just going to get a front wheel drive offset ti tuck it under the guards but the spring is the way. you need to have an engineer to submit drawings to the dept of transport to move your springs

oi, i think my flares make my car look tuff as especially cause the tyres fill them up nicely, and the stance helps handeling (not the point here i know)
but i still reckon flares is the way to go, and my 12 sec a15ett will be running flares! ![]() i agree to disagree... p.s. what you talking bout getting car engineered with tyres sticking out, its perfectly legal not engineered, if it wasnt my car wouldnt be on the road, that bitch of a copper wasbusting to find a third thing to defect me on so i had to get roadworthy, but luckily for me she wasnt that bright admitadely

Sorry blokes, i'm trying to figure out how to place a photo here. [I'm not succeding]
"Screw-doctor-spock" [fat bloke with orange shirt] seems to have summed it up perfectly, except for the part where i think they look silly. Wide wheels should come out to the edge of the body as near as practicable, but those tub jobs with more clearance between the tyre & the edge of the wheel arch than a stocker give all the "appearance" of a badly thought out design. Well thats my highly biased & thoroughly biggoted opinion. Biggots unite Chris

full tubs means moving the rails in so bigger tubs can be fitted ( this being only registerable as individualy constructed!
ie: a pain in the ass) mini tubs means widening the tubs to the rails ( this being registerable as modified production!) It was mentioned of moving the springs inward, this could be done with consultation with an engineer, to make sure the new spring mounting locations meet satisfactory standards.( one thing to remember when moving the springs in, is that by doing this you will be raising the roll centre of gravity. this being another thing to disscuss with the engineer.) As for buying or making the mini tubs a simple way is to mark the centre of the original tubs from front to back cut this line and un pick the inner part of the tubs. move this in the required amount ( on a 1200 ute it is less than an inch before you hit the rail ) then weld a strip the same width of this movement into the centre section.

1200rc...I don't mean to start a bitch session here, but if you have widened the track of your car (by having the wheels sticking further out), then that copper didn't have to look far to find that third defect.
Its illegal (at least in nsw) to change the track of a car by more than a certain amount (I think its about 10mm or something). And they can measure it and defect you, I've seen it done. Damn coppers!!!!

Personally, I prefer that, if you must come out , then restyle the body work to suit and as long as it isn't too much and in keeping with the idenity of the car.
There aren't too many flares that really match the car they go on. MadTimo. Please keep your robber catchers on your side of the border, I reckon you have the hardest coppers in Aus ![]()

I believe that the track can be widened by 2", however many might not realise that the track measurement is taken from the CENTERLINE of the tyres & not the outside edges.
This means that if the wheel is widened an equal amount in each direction, the track does not change. However, this is not what happens in practice. The additional width is usually added to the outside of the wheel & this results in that nice dish that we love so much. If we widen our wheels outward by two inches each, & fit them to our car, we will increase the track by just 2" What happens with many tub jobs is that the rear axle is narrowed to get silly sized wheels under there, & in so doing, the wheel track is often reduced, not increased. Particularly in those cars that have the outside edge of the rim in about the same place as original. This is need to allow the bag of the humungous tyres to clear the bodywork. It looks stoopid. I was trying to upload a photo that illustrated this point, but still cant figure out how. Chris
