do a 13 b non turbo as they are only 1.3 litre capacity not 2.6 litre as a lot of non rotor people think

TnPshow
I'm inclined to think that the CA series of engines are going to be a very good option for 1000's
I am doing what i can to determine just how hard, or easy, it will be to do a CA16DE install in my 1000 coupe.

I think that the "16" is a good selection for me as i am not looking for blinding performance, just good performance, & to buy a whole EXA as a donor car should cost less than a CA18DE version.

At this time it looks like an MR30 Skyline "stumpy" gearbox, installed into a series 3 Bluebird transmission case will yeild a 5 speed overdrive box that fits the engine with a gearlever that is foward of the regular position. Will it fit thriugh the original hole. Time will tell.

This looks like it could be a practical conversion. As for the rear axle, we're still working on that one, but it looks like the H150 diff center from the Sunny's will fit & a 3.7 to 1 ratio existed. Thats one option.

Think about it

that should be MR30. The MR30 Aussie L24E Skyline and HR30 Japanese L20ET Skylines had the stumpy L series 5spds. The RB30 engined Aussie R31 Skylines have a long 5spd. Another note is to make sure you don't buy a Stanza 5spd (which is the same length) for this conversion as it has smaller internals and won't interchange like the Skyline box. Not up on all the gearbox codes, but the stanza 5spd has a dogleg 1st with reverse where 1st normally is so it's easy to pick the difference.

for what it is worth, for the L series and stumpy 5spd in my 1200 coupe, I only had to elongate the shifter hole a couple of inches. And I mounted the engine as far back as possible. I think 1000 4spd is same length as the 1200 box, so your shifter location would probably require a similar mod.

1000 trans tunnel is pretty damn small though. Keeping the original shifter position might be the least of your problems in that area. Do you have a manual or auto floorpan?

yes but the rta says that when putting a rotary engine into a car, u must times the displacement by 2. this is why many ppl think that a 13b is 2.6litre

Thanks. Details noted & text corrected.

You're right. I pulled the engine & trans from my coupe last night & WOW, i had forgotten just how small that tunnel really is. In fact it may prove to be too small. More measuring & trial fitting is to follow.

Both TnPshow & I have coupes which came as manuals only.

Ill b glad to see any conversion done properly to a 1K. Yes there are rotor and other engine setups on 1ks but to no surprise we dont know hey they fit or whats been done to make it possible for it to be a common thing. So it isnt common and you wont be different by putting a heavy v6 in one as theyre all a mystery in this rare little gem. So before we say lets do something different whether its rotor or Ca18 or 4ag just make sure it doesnt upset its balance and we get can get the ones done with details on file. Remember a 1k is 650 kgs on average so be careful what demon you wish for it as it might just not handle, stop or outmanouvre anything but a 70s corolla. A datsun stands for fun for bucks and the fact its left many high tech machinery in the past gasping for breath around corners. remember a v6 has 30-60 per cent more weight than a 4 of same materials.
1Ks came 1,2,3rd positions at the 1969 Japan grand prix and that was with a 1ltr.
A wide torque range is better than a peaky one when you have little weight.
