Ive had a brief search and cant find any info on cams. What cam is best to fit in a a12? I have heard the a14/15 cam with a regrind is the best but Im not sure. I have access to both a stock a12 and a14 cam and I want to get one reground to sute my worked a12.
Help would be wonderful

Call up Kelford Cams in Christchurch Kelfords - they've been grinding these for years and have all the info re: profiles. If you want something in the North Island then CSL(?) in Palmerston North are meant to be OK too but Kelfords are my first choice.

Even if you got it on friday, would you have enough time to rebuild the engine as well as RUN THE CAM IN.
I think the cam manufacturer / regrinder would tell you how long to run it at restricted RPM before you give it a flogging, but this may prove to be a limiting factor.

speaking of cam grinds... does anyone know what a good cam for my A15 would be? I got extractors with 2inch system and dgv weber.. Its in my 1000 wagon which will be used for towing my catamaran and running stuff around so I need a 'torquer' profile.. nothing lumpy , just enough to bring the afforementioned mods to life :) is there anybody in Perth that could do this also?

Dodgeman I was not aware that one must run a cam in! I guess it makes sence. Oh well another race in a underpowered car. But it should be ok because Ive just installed Bilstiens and saughted out the rear springs (were to soft and low and kept bottoming out).

Try Ranch Automotive in osborne park.

My mates old man works there and they rebuilt, balanced and machined alot of stuff for me when i was building up my old escort.
They have a cam regrind department too.!

The cam manufacturer will provide the break-in instructions.

They used to be something like: use this special cam lube, and when you start the engine first time, run it at 2000rpm for 30 minutes -- do not let it idle.

Is this still the usual method?
