#1 Interior trim question, need help

Did all OZ/NZ cars have door panels like this? Meaning they didn't go all the way to the top of the door?

Ours in the US went up on top of the door edge, BUT our 1600 door panels looked like those in the photo. I was thinking of ways to get around the overwrap style door panel on my coupe. This would definitely be the way to go.

I guess I could trim some 1600 trim pieces to fit?

as far as i know they're all the same...
my front door trims now have fusion 2 way 6.5s in them...along with fusion 6 be 9s in the back...parcel shelf that is....goes alright....it shouldn't be hard to make up custom trims...

if you sprayed your standard door trims with vinyl spray u would get rub marks if u like putting your arm on/out the window...

sedans are like the picture, but coupes go all the way up and lip over

It's a a GL versus Deluxe (DX) Thing.

Most of the Australian Coupe were deleuxes, denoted by head rests, the wrapover door panelling, and extra Datsun badges on the rear quarters.

Some of the coupes also had blue piping in the interior (Another DX thing).

Most of the Sedans and Wagons in Australia were GL's as well.

Hey tens_and_twenties, all the US sedans are like this -- the door panels don't go up to the top. They are all Deluxe models. The GL is a more expensive model. The Deluxe is the next-to-lowest model.

I think the US coupes are somewhere between a DX and a GL, but there is no designation on them.

Hey dd.. it could also be a difference between where they were made, and what the local assembler thought deisgnated one grade over another.
I mean, I know the GL looked much different in Japan, with all of the "eye sore" badge work of 1972/73, but I think you'll find the 3 models are STD, GL, DX.
GL standing for "General Luxuries" and DX for "Deluxe".

Also, I bought a book called "Datsuns of the 70s". It's filled with car magazine reviews from the UK.

And interesting quote from AUTOCAR Magazine 23 July 1970, for the 1200:

I thought it was just that all the 1200s I've driven had worn out steering!

Yes, you are exactly right. Each Nissan subsidiary (Nisan North America, Nissan Australia, etc) had their own specific models and trims.

In Japan there was STD (lowest), DX, GL and GX (highest). There was also an odd "Semi-DX" that some Nissan literature refers to.

The Japanese STD came with front-drum brakes, a la Aussie sedans. However, all US sedans had "Deluxe" badging, and front disc brakes, which matches the Japanese DX trim level. But in the US, sedans came with GL hubcaps, so it's not exactly the same as the Japanese-market trim levels.

The sedans (in the US at least) have that channel spot welded into place to hold the top of the door panel.

Dang! I was hoping the channel screwed on like in a 1600.

Anyone have a good, clean set of sedan black door panels?
