from what I have seen, there are some subtle firewall differences, the most noticeable is where the coil pack mounts.

Ahhh, gotcha now.
When you wrote "coil PACK" i was thinking of the pack on something like a CA18DE engine, & not a standard "coil"

I also found the battery tray's are in a different location between early and late cars
