#1 Nowhere to go?
731200 Posted on: 2004/4/30 12:12
This is a question about modifying an sr20de (no turbo) If I could put a turbo on I would but I cant.

Would there be any significant gains by doing some head work, cam work, stronger internals, Quad throttle bodies and an after market computer?
This would cost alot so it would have to be worth it.

Also would a stroker kit out of an sr20det be of any use to me?

OR DOES THIS ENGINE HAVE NOWHERE TO GO!

there is heaps to gain there ! but very expensive! the quads are expensive. i have been told, cams, headwork etc on the late model nissan motors (new skool) is very expensive, also depends on what aftermarket brands you want to use too

even just going to a after market computer will give you some noticable power gains.

In the end better off getting a low kilometer Sr20det and dropping that in, be cheaper than doing all those mods to a sr20de, but to have a really worked Sr20de would be awsome too! if you have the $$$ to spend

The biggest turbo engine you can put in a 1200 in NSW is a ca18det or similar but has to be 1.8L or less.
Thats why I cant turbo it!

well go a ca18det with some trimings like bigger turbo, bottom end work, inter-cooler andafter market com and larger injectors

i mean were only talking bout a 800kg 1200 a Cadet motor will go very hard. that would pull you into low 12s maybe high 11s... depending on traction. problem with this is the more dollars need to be spent on diff, gearbox, larger tyres (if u want), but you will need that traction!

you wont be disapointed with a ca18det 1200.

whats up with the Sr20de? not enough go? ever done a Qauter mile in ur 1200 sedan?

for cams for a sr20de,try tighe cams in brisbane,i was told by dean tighe that they had 6 different grinds for a sr20de,with the biggest making 300 hp in the primera's run in the new zealand touring car championship (this was a few years ago).a couple of cars here in sydney raced in 2e with tighe cams, both making about 250 hp,cause they didn't want to go to the expense of quad throttle bodies.i can also remember an article in zoom magazine were they did some basic porting work on a de head, for some good gains.just remember there's more ports on this motor, due to all those valves,so head work costs a little more.

also, quad throttle bodies are available from a melbourne company, can't remember the name straight up,basically it was a bolt on using the stock injectors.

all this, plus a decent set of extractors, should give you some more horsepower.the thought of 250 hp in a 1200 would certainly entertain me for a while.

Sounds good I will make some calls to see how expensive it is. I will let everyone know what happens!
