i found this on the net:

"the SR20 turbo powered Nissan Pulsar N14 SSS ran a very stout 12.96 at 120mph in street trim."

so i guess they can be turbo charged...
also found this:

"Hmm... well, I had 165,000km on my N14 before I sold it, non SSS (GA16DE 1.6L model), and there was nothing wrong with it other than slightly worn gearbox synchro.

No smoke, engine had *plenty* of power, etc.

So yeah, find one thats been looked after (as in, serviced properly - look for a service history above all else) and you should be fine.

As far as abuse goes, SR20s can cop bullshit amounts before they die - just so long as they're looked after..."

sounds like they are an alright motor, although i haven't any first hand evidence.
how much are they asking for the ute? wats the body like?

If the engine is the same as the 180sx S13 SR20DE I have this engine in a 1200 sedan its just stock and goes good, suprised quite a few people at the lights.

(if you buy this ute) I think you are better off swapping the engine for an SR20DET and doing it that way.

If you look at that ute look to see weather the plenum chamber hits the brake booster when the engine moves especially when starting.

Check the steering Cross Rod dosent touch the engine underneath when the steering is turned full lock left or right.

Hope this helps.

the guy who owns it has no idea what the motor is from... i was thinking the same to exchange it for the turbo model. will this use same mounts etc???
also with FJ20's the fire wall has been moved back to allow for room in a 1200 ute - does this also need changing to fit the SR20? I asked him and again he does not know???
My brother in law lives down there but is away on a "bush bash rally" and i am in sydney so cannot make it down yet for a look.
