Alternator Wiring Woes

Running an A12a. So the alternator is on the driver's side now. My problem is my charge light stays on. I think I now have an internally regulated alternator. Using a Mitsubishi one. My question is I have the charge wire, the earth and the light wire, what is the other wire? Will this turn off my charge light? The only eleccy tool at my disposal is a test light. No multimeter.

The other wire is probably the one to turn the alternator on!
Most integral-wired alternators work like this: - Big power out wire -- direct to battery - case grounds to engine, sometimes there is also another ground wire - charge light wire (idiot light) - field wire -- connect to + part of the existing 1200 regulator harness Although I don't know for sure if the Mitsu alternator is wired like this. What are the markings on the back of the alternator? Look for something like N and A (single letters) near the wires.

Thanks for the reply however I figured it out. The wiring had been converted for an internally regulated alternator. My problem was that I hadn't kept the alternator to use with it. I only had left externally regulated alternators. So I went out and picked up an external regulator and rewired it back to std. All good.
Also I had a tacho problem but I fixed that. I had it wired in reverse. Craig You can view topic.
