#1 Fuel Problem
Drifft Posted on: 2004/5/31 11:36
i cant seem to get fuel to my carby. i have tried everything i can think of. i have tried running a fuel line directly from a can of petrol to the fuel pump and everything however the fuel wont make it to the carby, the carby isnt the problem as far as i can tell because i pulled the fuel line off before the carby and no fuel is making it that far, it seems that the fuel pump is the problem so i put one that definatly works in it. but the same problem remains. only thing i can think is that the whatever drives that little lever thing inside the engine isnt working? is this possible. could anything else be doing it, oil pressure? ...? any help would be appreciated.

maybe the diaphragm inside ur fuel pump is gone and cant prime itself to pump fuel.....

yeah possibly, we thought this may have been the problem on the fuel pump that was originally on the a12 (which is in my car) and so i took the fuel pump off an a14 which i have in my garage that worked fine and before i put it into the car i poored fuel into the intake bit and when i pushed the lever thing it squirted perfectly out the other side, does this mean it should be fine? also the a12 that i have the problem with is an ex turbo one i got off my mate, could it be because of the fuel pump it would have been running at that time? i have driven it aprox 100km before i had a problem with it.

maybe you have an air leak somewhere in the fuel lines? I had the same problem and thought of replacing my fuel pump until I found that a couple of clamps I was using where a size too big for the hose.

ill have another look but i tried pooring the fuel directly into the fuel pump when it was on the car then tried kicked it over ect and it still didnt pump back out the other side. i have run compressed air through over inch of fuel line and hose etc so that rules out blockages. as far as i can tell all it can really be is that the fuel pump blocked which i am 99% sure its fine becuase it worked perfectly before i put it onto the engine or that the lever thing that goes into the side of the block isnt being driven propperly by whater drives it??? maybe something to do with that has broken???

From what i can remember the A12 and A14 pumps were different and you can break the pump lever off if you use them in the wrong one. i think i read that here. the arm is a different length from what i can remember. have a think about an elec fuel pump

Yes, A12 and A14 pumps are different -- the arms are different lengths. Swap them one way, the pump will break. The other way, it won't pump.

Not likely. It's an eccentric lobe on the camshaft. There's nothing to break inside the engine, and unlikely the lobe would be worn down.

havent broken something inside have you. Maybe the timing chain. Check if the rotor button goes round when you turn it over. The pumps are different I broke one once. Olboy

yeah the rotor button spins. is it that the a14 one wont pump when put on an a12? because if that is right i think it may have solved my problem.
