#1 Steering bush.
Abyss Posted on: 2004/8/9 2:11
Hello,

I have to replace the steering bush on my 1200 ute. The one that is just under the steering wheel that holds the shaft central in the column.

I have tried some after market places for one with no luck.

I got up the courage to call nissan for a price and they want $45 for this little piece of rubber/urethane

Does anyone know where else I could try for one? I really need it by Wed to get my ute on the road again so if I can't find one anywhere else I will unfortunately order one through Nissan today

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

sorry for jumping on the back of your thread but you just reminded me i need the bush which is oposite the steering box and locates the other end of the rack as my one is totally buggered, I also need the same bush as you do.
Cheers
Quinn

Not a prob, I rang around some more with no luck.

I could have got one made up but it would have been dearer than the genuine one.

I bit the bullet and ordered on from nissan.

Hope you have a bit more luck finding an after market one.

Quinn,

I've seen both factory ones and aftermarket nolathane ones for the trailing arm pivot.

If they are well greased and not hammered in rallying, they should last forever just about

Do you have a local nolathane suspension dealer? An aftermarket suspension place?

Just measure them up and ask for them.

If yours are totally stuffed, I can measure up my nolathane ones at home, and give you the measurements.

Quinn, I recently replaced my Steering Idler bush (The one that seems to match your description) and Repco had the nolathane items for my car for $14.
Try them.

Hi Abyss,I also needed the steering column bush for my 1200.
I looked up the part no in my parts book and what I got did not fit my column,it ended up being the main nut at the top has a bush inside it.
Just check your style of bush otherwise you may end up with a 45 dollar bush that is no use.

Hi Ade,

It's the one under the top nut that I'm after. I picked it up this morning and it looks like it is the right one but I'll see for sure tomorrow.

If anyone wants the part no, it is:

N*48054H1002 (that's straight off the invoice)

Translates to the more common:
48054-H1002

Good one.

is this the bush that stops the steering wheel from shaking up and down???

That's the one, I had a bit of movement in mine and when I decided to replace my steering wheel, I thought I should fix that as well.

I feels like the wheel hasn't been bolted on tight enough but it is just a bit of play in the bush, worn over time.
