Welcome

Wow, what a coincidence, I've also got a datto 1200 delux and a Skyline gtx.{dr30 shpe, only assembled in SA with the 280zx motor}
The Skylines great, but the 1200 is brilliant, especially when It comes to prices on spares, economy and reliability.

The 1200 is one very pratical car, where one can work on, themselves, without having all the funny, confusing electrics.

Enjoy driving your 1200.

The RB20 will fit into a 1200 ... compare to this:

RB30 1200 coupe

A12 and A14 blocks are different. The A14 is a 'tall block'. See Engines.

i dont think i would wanna chop up my datto that much and i think a sr20det would be plenty enough sting to move it along nicely but ill probly just settle for a a14 or 15 what would i find one of these in for a donor motor and are they a streight fit

There are two diferent A12 engines. The Datsun 1200 used the version with the distributor in the foward position, just above the oil pump.
From about 1974, the engine was changed a little & the distributor was moved back near No. 3 cylinder. The right side engine mount, & the fuel pump were also moved a little, but the left side is the same as the early engine.
A14/15's will interchange with this later type of A12 & the mods to fit any of these later engines in a 1200 car are relatively minor.
