#1 all new steering for the 1200
Quinn Posted on: 2004/9/17 10:46
Im looking at replacing all the steering components in my 1200 as they are pretty much shagged. I have ( i think) all the bushes i need but finding things like idler arms and inner ball joints are hard, even though I work for repco. Im kind of being lazy but i was wondering what parts from other cars will mesh with the 1200, ie 120y? ( we only list 120y steering parts) or corolla arms will make the steering quicker i heard. If you were to build the steering from scratch and didnt want to face engineering issues ( nothing to extreme) what would you do?
Any ideas will be really helpful.
Cheers
Quinn

Hey Quinn - is this for your 2 door road car? I'd be swapping all the steering components to Sunny or is it that the same listing as 120Y? I've heard the Sunny steering box has a quicker ratio than the 1200 - haven't confirmed it yet so that'd be a plus right there. I had good luck with Lucas in NZ re: some parts that Repco didn't carry.

How's the Fiat working out? Any pics?

Nah - the X19 was mundane compared to the firebreathing 1608 twin cam 124! Now that was a car...

Youve got a good memory teretonga, I do have a 124 and its still in the garrage waiting for me to finish it off, theres only the roll cage foam and a few other small items and its done. Yea the steerings for the 2door, I will check out the sunny steering box, sounds good. Im hoping some one will tell me if 120y stuff will bolt strate in, it would make life a lot simpler.
Cheers

an old mate had an X19 with the 1.5 import motor, locker diff (never sure if it was factory (as it was an import) or was welded by the previous owner), that car would just hook and hook around with the slip of the clutch and some heavy lock.

But the 124 is a beautiful car as well, sent me the pics, also the mate who had the X19 had a mate (no bullshit) who had a 124 supebrava (i think) this was navy, with a roll cage what looked to be a 9 inch and tubbed, awesome

Pedders sell ball joints and stuff (I didn't enen have to order my parts he had em there on the shelf) not steeringboxes though.

rose-jointing would be the ultimate but also verry expencive and it would give a hard ride. I didnt know pedders had all the ball joints for the 1200, Ill give them a call, as for the bushes Ive already got the complete set in nolithane.

Quinn I used to work for Repco, now I have clicked that it must be you I sold the ovalport manifold to a couple of years back!!!??
I know the B210 idler arm bushes fit the 1200, not sure about the rest as I have sunny struts, I got new balljoints etc just before I left Repco
Did you end up selling the coupe or do you still have it?
