C_A_R_I_D_I Posted on: 2004/10/8 11:23
hey everyone,

i am just looking for some reconmendations on a diff for my 1200 sedan that will be able to handle around 196 lb-ft@ 3500.

i will be running a five speed.
i was thinking a H190 will this be able to handle this sort of power with ease or should i be looking for mabye a r31 LSD?

im trying to keep price in mind

cheers frank

they can taker a fair whack of power

my bro-in-law always tells me of an rx-7 drag car using one, apparently it has around the 500hp mark, but unsure of torque sorry

thanks mate,

196 lb-ft@ 3500 thats the torque of a standard 200hp 13b turbo (which i want to run) so it should hold up for years.

cheers
Frank.

There is one that comes into the dyno I use in a 910 Bluey with FJ20T. The car has 280 Rear wheel kw's.

It has never given trouble even with nasty abuse, such as side stepping the clutch at about 5000

190mm is equivalent to 7.5 inches. The Ford 7.5 rear is good for 285 lb-ft of torque (based on its use in the 1984 Mustang GT 5.0).

With only 200 lb ft, you could use a lighter differential gears like the H165, however the H165s have too weak of axles (?) to handle the torque???

Yeah, I agree.....H190 is probably too big. We run a Ford 7.5 on a 430 rwhp RX7.

But at least you know it will never break I guess. If you are using a series 4/5 turbo gearbox as well, there's no way you'll ever break anything.

i think ill go h190 now instead of later.

i think ill run the s4/5 box for now but upgrade when power eccedes its limits.

cheers Frank

If you run a S4/5 gearbox, you won't need to upgrade for a long time, trust me

I'd double check that if I were you. is that a rear wheel figure?

If its correct, I'd agree that a H190 is overkill. A H165 or 120Y/Corolla Borgwarner will handle that.

well if a 13b has more torque than a CA18 det and a h165 has trouble handling it with a few mods added wouldnt it be better???
and ill upgrade gbox when i want to instead of upgrading g'box and diff again.

better spend the money now than later.

cheers frank
