#1 Is this expensive?
Iori Posted on: 2004/10/10 9:31
The local Jap motors place in Townsville wants to charge me $850 for an A15 engine. Not installed.
His description of the engine is "an A15 import engine" and as far as I know it is not rebuilt.. He said $770 to install said motor, and he offered to rebuild my A12 for only..... $1250...

Thoughts anyone ..

Yeah dude the rebuild sounds ok but what parts will he use.Everything else sounds like a rip.$850 for a motor and $770 to install it tell him his dreaming...

Well the rebuild is just to factory condition, so nothing special, and nothing performance based...

The unfortunate thing is... Now where else within 300km wants anything to do with my Datsun.. I mean, one guy laughed at me and told me to get lost when I was asking around for seat belfts that would fit my coupe. He then proceded to tell me that there is no way I would be able to purchase such a vehical... Despite the fact that I did 2 days earlier... North Queensland really sucks if you want to clean up a car that isnt a dunnydore

Seatbelts are fairly universal items. Why would he tell you to get lost?

Mate i know what you mean. I had lots of trouble getting things done on my 1200 ute up here too. every where is a rip off and no one is helpful.

For my beefed up A14 I got it built out of state by Errol aka feral (www.datrats.com.au), rather than get my motor done in townsville!

there are helpful datto addicts in townsville but its hard to find them without going through all the S*#t i had too.

What Datsun have you got? what things are you aiming to do with motor, exterior, interior etc?

only major things I got for my 1200 in townsville were my mags (which was a huge hassle), paint (mates), webers tuned and seats/dash recovered, thats it, the rest I bought from down south and lads off this site. Alot of the little things i got from the usual major outlets like autobarn, super cheap etc.

Cheers

p.s If you want anymore help just give me a PM

I got a 73 1200 coupe, it is ####ty white atm, but I wanna slowly clean it up. Cut out rust, I am thinking of paiinting it Matt Black, and getting all the chrome bits polished. I am probably going to work on my A12 get it all nice and sturdy, and do a light supercharger job... But being broke is slowing me down...

LOL! I live out at West End... I used to own a 120y a few years ago, but had to get rid of it after it got smashed. Ever since then I always wanted a Datsun coupe of some description. Then I move out to West End, and the guy next door had this white 1200 coupe, he was fixing a few things on it, and then a week later he had it for sale.. It was fate I tells ya. I got it for $1000, with 3 months rego, so I am happy
