#1 Damn Swapmeet

What are the swapmeets like in Australia for Datsun 1200 parts and carbs etc.? I waited in anticipation all year for my annual swapmeet and I only found a Datsun 1200 brochure which I am happy for cause I didn't have this one. BUT, no Datsun 1200 parts except for one set of extractors. Last year I got a set of bumpers and a mint grille for $60 or something like that to fix my rash damage. Have to wait till next year now. Have to keep up Trademe till then.

Weather held up on Saturday. Got there at 8am with a pocketful of cash but all I bought other than the brochure was a $3 blow up alien which the girlfriend rejected when I gave it to her. I'm sure it wasn't the fact that I spent more money on Datsun brochures than her. Too many Model T, A and old Chev Coupe parts! So many panels with massive rust holes! Not many motorbike stuff either this year. Was not as good as previous years. Do you normally go Blair?

Try to not get too annoyed with the early car blokes at swap meets as it was these people that got swap meets off the ground years before the Datsun 1200 was ever seen in Datsun dealer showrooms.

I still have a flyer for the first advertised swap meet in Sydney. It dates to either '67 or '68, which even predates my 1000 coupe. I guess that gives them the right to offer their own rust for trade.

Check the Trading Post as there is a section for club related events in there, & have a peek in the back, or events section, of restorer & hot rod magazines the next time you are at a newsagent.

It's the name of the game, i keep going with mates. the problem with this is that they don't look out for datsun stuff but i look out for holden ot toyota stuff for them! I was blown away at the last one as i found a few "DATSUN" badges as found on a Datto 1000 whcich is only the second lot of 1000 parts i found at a swap meet the other lot was a full set of badges including a radio blank panel which i bought and left with the vendor to pick up on the way out and when i returned in about 25 mins he had left with my badges

Hey Dodgeman, My old man used to attend many of the swap meets back then, looking for '34 and '36 ford parts.

Were you in any hotrod clubs back then?

Or were you in a special "phone-car" club?

Cheers,
Chris

ps. It's going to be hard for me to forget the photo of you and that large phone..

Speaking of swapmeets, I found an A12A engine at the last one and did not buy it. Kicking myself now!
