#1 Drowning Datto
SpeedQueen Posted on: 2004/10/21 10:15
Hi
Could someone please advise how I can stop my datto drowning every time it rains. when it rains (in fact moisture of any kind), the ute will turn over, but not start and sometimes even after running when stopped, won't start again. I have replaced the coil, sparks, leads, points, rotor button, condensor and it continues to happen. Is becomming very tedious....

N.b - motor is an A-12 in need of a rebuild - but should that affect ignition?

Thanks

yes if the engine is in need of a rebuild, you could be affected by loss of ignition power and conductivity.... oil or condensation on spark plugs could cause starting probs.

Did you replace the dizzy cap ?? cause you didn't put that in your question .It says you replaced everything else ,cause a stuffed dizzy cap could also be the problem ..just a thought .

That's right. Always suspect the cap when damp weather causes starting problems. Secondly, the plugwires.

If you haven't replaced the cap, take it off, wash with soap and water, let dry. Inspect for carbon tracks inside and out. If it looks OK, put it back on and see how well it works.

Autokat & Ddgonzal are right. When the ignition fails you during wet conditions, there is a list of 'the usual suspects' & the cap is number one on the list.

My suggestion? Replace it!. They are not expensive & should be regarded as a service item anyway. Lets face it, nothing lives forever & you look to have replaced everything else in the ignition department.
