510 heat/temperature sensor

Hi,
Can anyone tell me where I will find the heat/temperature sensor on my 1981 510 wagon? The gauge just quit working after I had repaired the radiator. Hopefully just a loose wire, but if someone has other suggestions, I would appreciate them. Oh, does the sensor measure oil or water temp? Thanks. Bob

its in the thermostat housing. on the lower half. it measures water temp.
