#1 sr20 in datto 1200 ute?
4star Posted on: 2005/1/30 5:20
hay all. just wondering what motor i could use in a turbo datsun 1200 ute. i have a z18 in my 16 atm and its got a stock turbo and its got some nice power for a 1000kg car, i was thinking a worked z18 but by the time i put it into the ute and rebuild+parts and so on it would have costed me more then to put a stock sr20 in with some boost to make the same power, and the sr revs alot more then the good old z,
i was thinking a 13B-T? or a sr20
yes i know a ca18 can be put in there but im not a big fan of the ca18.

also i know this cant really be answered but how much would it cost to put the motor in and how would i go about it, is there any of the shelf kits i can get? or does it have to be a full custom kit, and i want some tubs on the ute aswell,
if anyone has or knows anyone who has done anythign please add my msn or pm me,

Damo

Hmm Victoria I dont think so. Fairly certain a CA18DET 1200 ute is legal but an SR isnt. The best thing to do is consult a local engineer.

If your after information on how to do the SR conversion you have come to the right place. We have just about completed an SR20DET 1200 conversion in the ACT. Check out mini me at for more info. Feel free to ask me any questions.www.valvebounce.com

a rang up 1 place and he said we dont have laws like QLD does. but the car would have to have a LOT of work done to it to pass coz of the power of the motor and the weight of the car.

how much has it costed u so far mate?

QLD is the other state that I have seen a SR20DET ute registered. Best thing to do is ring around different engineers.

Its not my car but a mates, its cost him around 25K and thats doing the conversion ourselves. That includes rebuilding the SR, new turbo (GT28), Borg Warner diff conversion, computer, Sparco seats, custom interior with all autometer gear, Compomotive wheels from England, not to mention the fuel system, electrics, intercooler, radiator, tailshaft, brakes etc etc.

k aftre calling around. i got some un helpful ppl and some very helpful. i was told there is a code to working it out it
the factory tare weight.x3 for NA motors
and 2.5 for turbo/supercharged

so e.g if the car weights 1000kg i can have a 3lt NA motor or a 2.lt turbo/charged motor.

now all i got to ask is how much a datto 1200 ute weight in at?
please tell me its 200kg

Mine weighs 750 but I think it was 720 from the factory. It's a shortbed if that helps.
