#1 rain = wet feet whats the solution?
LAGWAGON Posted on: 2005/2/3 6:00
it rained down here in melbourne last night, and boy did it rain!!! anyway it reminded me of how i have a small but very annoying leak which results in driver and passenger footwells ending up wet. what have other people done to fix this, as it is rusting in the little vents near the wipers but i can't get right down there? anyone else have this problem?

the dash is really simple to pull out, just pull it out and fix it from the inside. or move to Perth, 38 degrees today. no rain in sight.

cool, dash is out atm, i was hoping i could fix it from the inside. nice. so what product should i use to seal it? it pissed down all night, but was sunny all day and is supposed to rain over the weekend and supposedly it snowed in the mountains ... gotta love melbourne. any other leak fix experience?

make sure you treat the rust first. then the best way would be to weld in a new section and seal the edges with a product similar to bostik. thats how i would do it

if you take off your cowling panel (the vents just before your windscreen) and peer inside you might see some rust there.

if there is any (and it's a common problem thanks to leaves, sand, dead mice...) chances are that's where it leaks. easy fix with the dash out though :o)

cowlick panels are out, and i cleaned a heap of leaves out but there is minimal rust there. its just on the inside where the panels meet. hopefully an easy fix, i'm just wanting to do it properly the first time!

i had similar problem, when i changed the front quarters i found there were holes behind them up in the top corner, since i cleaned up and plugged them ive never had a problem with it again

well i took off the front gurads expecting to see gaping rust holes, and there was nothing! yay! so i went up to bummings and said to the guy "you remember that add in the eighties where the guy got that metal strainer for peas and sprayed it with that grey stuff and it sealed..." and he went and got me a can of this stop leaks spray. sick. so i'm gonna clean up the inside of the upper bit where the dash goes and spray the bejesus out of it. thanks for the help fellas

also check where the wipers bit sticks through to the outside....had a small leaking problem there and fixed it with a quick squirt of silastic
