#1 Sealant - locktite?
datrat_dave Posted on: 2005/2/17 6:55
Umm in my serivice manual it says 'before installing 1st and 5th bearing caps apply a small amount of sealant in corners' would this just be a small ammount of locktite or a similar gasket sealer?

Cheers
Dave

Yep sure does.
With the Loctite use the flexible one not the lock type or any good quality flexable oil resistant sealant will work just fine.
Best stuff available for this application is called Rhotaseal (its not spelt like that but the name sounds the same)
A bit expensive but very good - made in Germany I think - thats why I cant remember how to spell it.

It doesnt matter what brand you use. Use a good RTV sealer Three bond is a good 1. I have used Three Bond 1207B Feral put me on to it. Its good stuff its available at good auto parts stores But its about 40 bucks a tube.

Wurth also make a very good one but its very expencive it also comes out of germany its probably the same or very simalar as the rotorseal yoe are talking about. I dont think my spelling is correct either.

If you live anywhere near a large tractor repairer, see if you can get some Cat Red. It's reasonably priced, remains soft & pliable, handles pressures up to abpot 90psi, temperatures higher than most overheated engines produce, & fills uneven gaps up to ten thou.
I have used it exclusively for about 30 years.
