#1 Need Diff Advice
NIS15L Posted on: 2005/3/1 3:16
Ok guys my mate has a hilux Diff which has been already cut down to suit a 1200 ute with billet axles and a full spool. He wants to sell it to me.
The only thing is that the ute it came out of had the leaf springs moved in. Now should i go to the extent of moving my leaf springs (fairly Big Job) in which i asume is just to allow the car to run a wider rim, Or should i just modify the diff to suit the standard leaf position( pretty simple Job).
Im not interested in running massive tyres or anything.
The other thing is how hard is it to turn the hilux diff back into 4 stud.
Any help or advice would be great guys.
Cheers Luke

Re hang the diff......it's going to be much easier, and you already said you're not interested in big wide tyres......easy solution.

yep, usually the leaf mounts are done in conjunction with mini tubs so just move them back. you can't really run a bigger rim without the tubs anyway. i have 6.5's on the back of mine and they often "chirp" on the side of the wheel tub area when going up a driveway on an angle.

as for the four stud thing, any diff place should be able to do this. about $75 each i think.

a spool mini or full does exactly the same thing as a welded diff. So to drive it would be exactly the same, but internally stronger than a MIG lockker.

$75 a side should do it. Spool and locker both do the same think; lock the axles together.
