I am sure it has been done before. But my personal opinion is keep the same makers engine in the same makers vehicle. A CA would be nissan's equivalent. I suggest checking out the tech section for engine info. Apparently Datsun produced some rotory coupes so even a rotor is acceptable in my books

The 4age is a magnificent engine, some say the 16v is a better feel than the 20v. They rev out well. true your Datto will be a hybrid, but i like to think of them as a highbred.
I love my ute-rus

I agree with dattodevil keep the engine and vehicle the same. how many 75' corollas are out there with SR20's in them my answer is 0 to 1, but it is your ute and you can do what you want, dont let anyone else tell you what they want you to spend you're money on. because your car is you.

I've seen a 4age in a 1200 i don't know if it was a ute or not.
so it can be done.
but i say stick with sum thing a little bit easyer like a 13b

I looked into doing this when I started my project.
From what I remember it's a bit more of a drama getting the engine to fit...... something about offset engine mounts to allow the starter motor to fit or something??
One thing I do know is that they're a great engine - very light & revvy. I had a mate who put a 4AGEZE in an MR2, he fitted a boost kit for the supercharger (mail order - ex U.S) & got even better performance.

Personally though, i'd prefer to keep mine Datsun / Nissan. But that's an individual thing.

I dont get this staying true to type mentality.

Once you have decided to remove the A series donk and put something else in its place you are creating a bastard.(and this is not ment to be a judgement just a statement of fact)

You arn't making it any more a datsun by using a CA18 over a 4AGE or a rotary, none of these are datsun 1200 engines.

Use the engine you want or that would be easiest to get, cheapest,or most suitable.

If you think its still somehow a "Datsun" engine because it has Nissan on the rocker cover you are just kidding yourself.
