Unbelieveable. Thats where it goes on A10's & 1200's anyway. Talk about "engine envy"

nice find 2332owner,those pictures are worth saving. i was trying to get a 200B alternator (or any L series alternator for that matter) to fit into my A12 once and this would have been perfect for the job! i ended up getting the alternator shell changed to suit the stock bracket on 1200 A12 engines.

I have only one question - why?
what's the advantage of moving the alternator back over there? so that you don't have to mess around with wiring when fitting the A14/15 to a 1200? Seems to me moving the wiring is easier and cheaper than moving the alternator...

for me, no reason, I was thinking it might make better use of the engine bay space.

It's great to see the setup like that but really, that poor car, i think that is the real issue there
but on another note. i think it's a good idea to be able to fre up some room at the top of the engine bay. things look neater. i like the idea. the L-series are low mounted on the battery side of the bay. keeps them out of the way. easier to get to other things that are worked on more often..

I can see the point if you wanted to put something else in the spot otherwise occupied by the alternator, like that blower - definitely a worthwhile improvement!
But I guess the point I was trying to make was that the pics in that link there didn't seem to be any point or advantage. The alternator in its normal location on A14/15 doesn't obstruct any other service item, and is easier to access itself in that standard location. I guess moving it would appeal to people who want it to appear they still have an early A12 in their engine bay at first glance? You can view topic.
