Steering ratio
1200coupe
Posted on: 2005/4/27 0:45
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to increase the steering ratio of a 1200 coupe. Is there a "quick box" available anywhere or is it possible to modify the standard steering box to reduce the number of turns on the steering wheel. This is for a competition car. Any help appreciated.
Thanks, Paul.

first of all, you should check the rules of your category to se if this is allowed... or if they will ever check...
the time honoured way of doing this is to shorten your steering arms. This probably isn't legal for road use, and you really want to find someone who knows what they are doing. Try some rally prep workshops like Stewart Wilkins Motorsport.

From memory, 180B steering arms are shorter than stanza....as for the steering box, Selby's in sydney used to muck around with s\box ratios. I can ask them if you like..

Thanks guys for your replies.
My coupe has all the known modifications to the front end geometry to achieve quicker steering, steering arm mods and rose jointed fully adjustable lower control arms etc etc. My question specifically concernes the steering box and any mods that can be done to it to achieve quicker ratios. Benny, I would appreciate it if you could ask on my behalf. If you could PM or post the info here that would be a great help. Paul.

i seem to remember the speedway guys using a little round box that fits on the steering wheel end of the column. it must work with sun gears I think. but they use them to speed up the steering. Olboy
