#1 Anyone interested in high performance headlamp wiring upgrade?
B210sleeper Posted on: 2005/5/18 19:16
I'm putting together a wiring harness upgrade that would easily allow our datsuns to have brighter headlamps.

basic idea, plug socket into old headlamp socket to control relay. relay feeds power directly from battery to headlamps bypassing lots of wiring in the steering column = brighter lamps.

Anyone Interested in buying one?

If you have a B310, you already have headlight relays. My '79 has them on the fender next to the battery. The washer bottle hooks on the sheetmetal cover. Just need to plug in a heavier relay and add heavier wires to the headlights. I suggest Bosch relays. Add a junction block for the positive battery cable too and it's a convenient place for the headlights to hook in, gets rid of the fusible link. Add a circuit breaker. The junction block is also a good place to hook in your CMC connector that you mount below the bumper so you can hook up jumper caples without popping the hood. A Ford starter solenoid is good for energizing the CMC so your jumper cable isn't live until you flip the switch on the dash. In my pickup, I use it for energizing the winch that fits in the trailer receiver, front, back and both sides and with a 2/0 extension, the trailer.

oddly enough my 81 sunny 310 doesn't have a headlamp relay, I've looked at the FSM and there isn't one. This may be a US model thing.

I already have a circuit breaker ( my fusible link was missing )

might want to start calling your car a B310 or 210 since the 310 is a completely different car - if anything to keep from confusing me. :)

Well I've made the first one, It seems to work well, plugs in easily. Uses 2 relays 1 for high beams and one for low, 30 amp each, fed by 10 ga wire, each relay feeds the headlamp with 14 ga wire, there are 2 grounding points in the system and a 30 amp circuit breaker.

what can I do with the unused default position? ( there's a unenergized position on each relay, which means perhaps daytime running lights could be made, since they would switch off when the headlamps turn on. maybe fog lights that turn off when the high beams are on (since highbeams don't work in fog ) or something.
